Is the SB audigy 2 any better than the SB Live! Value?

I have an older M$ Sidewinder that uses the gameport interface. The soundcard that came with the new pc I just got does not have a gameport. I was wondering if there is any noticeable sound difference between the SB Audigy 2 and my old SB Live! Value, because if not I would like to switch them out cause the Value has a gameport.

Maybe you can ask for one in the FS/FT forums. I'm sure a lot of people have no use for theirs.

The original Audigy was much better than the Live, so Yes an Audigy 2 is better. My Wingman Formula Force Wheel has what appears to be a Gameport to USB adaptor, you might want to check into whether such a thing is available. USB is so much much better than a Gameport.

I have two SB Live! soundcards with gameport. 20$ each, if you want them.
Also, I would kill for a Gamepad/USB adapter. I got a Saitek Cyborg 3d for 4$ at Goodwill, and love it to death; however my lappy does not have a gameport.

what kind of speakers do you have? you should be able to tell a difference in quality, unless your speakers suck, then you won't.

MetalMat: I know that most retail/oem audigy line of card have a joystick port header on the card. You could go to a local computer shop and as if they have any spare joystick ports that you plug on the motherboard. They may give it free, or a small charge of a few bux. I know I have a few lying around at work, usually because a customer builds a machine with as sound card and not using the onboard sound so no need of the onboard joystick port.

Budman: about the Live 24-Bit, i have not personally used one but i have looked up the specs ... basically its a cutdown audigy 1 chip with 7.1 speaker support. No DVD audio, ASIO 2.0, EAX Advanced HD support. Full compare Here . Aslo I could not find and drivers listed on there website either... could be bundled as part of the Audigy series though

Dahak: What does it mean on that sheet when it says it doesn't have DVD audio? What is DVD audio( music DVDs or better quality playback in movies or something?) used for?

Thanks,

Sunbird.

DVD-Audio is a Music DVD format, Higher quality than your standard cd, also in 5.1. You usually need (depending on how sensitive your hearing is of course, your mileage may vary) a pretty decent speaker setup to hear the difference though, so if you're not an audiophile, you might not relaly need DVD-Audio

Most DVD-A discs include some sort of a dolby digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 track for those without DVD-A players.
