I'm about the order the 1.33Ghz CPU from Newegg and I want to know your opinion on this fan. According to the reviews, everyone is saying how great it is!

Or what about the Thermaltake MINI SUPER ORB ? Which is $13 dollors.

The VOLCANO II is $8.00

Newegg Thermaltake heatsink fans

Looks like the VOLCANO II is getting more praises...

btw, and please don't go telling me to go for a TaiSol or something like that...I don't have that kind of money to be spending for an expensive fan...just one that is good enough to keep it at the right temp.

Uh.........no. You?re paying upwards of $170 or more for the cpu but can't spend more than $8 for a heatsink? But to be fair it will do, if you don't play 3 hours of UT, or run SETI/RC5 or other stressing program. I also wouldn't recommend trying to overclock that bad boy with the VolcanoII either.

Your forgetting voltage, which is the big mean gremlin in cooling. When you overclock you up the voltage and with it heat rises. I've tested "AMD Approved" heatsinks rated for 1.5gig.......they didn't cut it on a mere 800mhz T'bird when the voltage is maxxed out. You also need to consider the case. If your case will have sufficient airflow a lower quality hsf may do, it just won't give great results. How hot is too hot? Depends on your individual core, mine hangs at 50C, others can get to 60C on the same board/thermistor setup. I've seen copper bottom HSF's that kept mine cooled to 35C reach 49C on the same board with a 1.33gig T'bird. One "value" HSF that I have tested was the Vantec FCE, while other reviews rave about it, I failed to optain a temp below 45C at idle on an overclocked 800 T'bird. Does that mean it's crap? No, just that when the voltage is maxxed, and the cpu is under stress the Vantec just failed to remove the heat fast enough. So my point is the Volcano II will work, just don't expect to push your CPU with it.

The Volcano II is rated on AMD's site for the 1.33Ghz...but if you are running overclocked you will probably be at a higher voltage than a stock 1.33...so it's probably not a good idea.

The Volcano II is iffy...I'm going to use one because it's cheap, and I'm going to be using a Duron 750 hopefully at 1G...but for an Athlon o/c'd to 1333 unless it's at stock voltage it's probably a bit to hot.

The Volcano II will be "marginal". It might cool enough, but put it on full load with a poorly circulated case and you'll be having BSOD all over the place.

Why not spend a few bucks more and get a GOOD heatsink? A Tiasol CGK742 is only $22. If you're paying that much for a CPU, just spend a few bucks more and get a good HS. You'll thank us later.

If you do decide to go with the Volcano II, and your system is unstable, it is due to your crap HS.

Well, if you put on an 80mm fan adapter with a good 80mm fan, it should O/C good.

Its an okay fan and a cheap alternative. Jus spend a little more for a better investment especially if you have a high end TBird to be overclocked.

Where could I get the Tiasol CGK742 for only $22 ?

And where could I get Global Win FOP32-I for around $18-20 ?

It kind of bugs me when people list the product and the price, but they don't mention where!

That link isn't working. It just pops up a "page unavailable" page, launches my gozilla, and starts some download....strange...

What is going on here?

I went to check both of those fans mentioned above that you guys recommended, but they both list no more than up to 1.2 & 1.3Ghz!!!

The Volcano II says up to 1.5Ghz.

I want a good/cheap fan (under $30) that lists either up to 1.33GHz or 1.5Ghz

I have no intent in overclocking my 1.33Ghz as of now. I mostlikely probably won't. But incase I do change my mind, it would be nice to know that it will keep a CPU cool at least up to 1.5Ghz.

Oh, and don't forget to provide links

HELP!

Go here check out the socket heatsink tests, then check out the prices in the store. If your going to invest that much bank in a CPU, you should protect your investment.

I use the cpc30370(MC370) from KD. It keeps my duron@933 nice and cool. I also have the vantec, despite people who are ignorant, the vantec is a great HSF. it performs better than a fop38 and on par with a wbk38. For it's price you cant go wrong. It's clip is also a great, easy to use hinged design. The only clips i like better are Taisol's and my swiftech ones.

Quick question about when ordering from INFLOW direct.

<< The package includes the Hedgehog 238 heatsink, clip, mounting screws, sunon 60X60X25mm 24CFM 34DBA fan. Optional Fans: Delta 60mm 30CFM fan, Delta high performance 60mm 38CFM 46DBA or Ultra quiet Sanyo Denki 60X60X25mm 19.1CFM 28DBA fan. >>

It states that I have the option of choosing four different fans. But will you be able to keep the original fan that came with the package? I know, I know, I could have just emailed them, but it's pass business hours and I won't get a response till tomorrow. And you guys won't mind answering me this, right?

Lysimachus: Often time those specs are lied about anyways. So the speed limit that hte manufactor lists their heatsink being able to cool is generally not a good idea to go by. Heck, the SuperOrb is listed to cool a 1.5Ghz, but NO ONE here would dare use it on anything that hot/fast. Trust the guys here when they say a Taisol or a GlobalWin WBK38 (one Im looking at getting btw) or a CAK38 could well cool your 1.33Ghz. The SuperOrb is a peice of trash, dont even think of picking it up unless you want an expensive paperweight. I'd say go with an Alpha, GlobalWin (WBK, CAK, or at the very least a FOP) or a Taisol.

Thanx.

However, how is the noise level on the GlobalWin WBK38? I don't know what this means:

"Noise Level: 46.5 dBa"

Or how loud those numbers represent. I want a fan that is fairly quiet, not loud.
