Is The UK Attacking Freedom Of Speech?

Human rights activists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have been banned from the UK and are now appealing the ban. A petition has been launched to remove the ban and has received thousands of signatures.

While Geller and Spencer are being banned the UK allowed in a cleric who stated the following

United Kingdom recently admitted the Saudi Muslim cleric Mohammed al-Arifi, who has said: "Devotion to Jihad for the sake of Allah, and the desire to shed blood, to smash skulls and to sever limbs for the sake of Allah and in defense of His religion, is, undoubtedly, an honor for the believer." Spencer added: "Such open calls for jihad violence are apparently acceptable in Britain as long as one is in favor of such violence; only those who oppose it are excluded."
This doesn't make sense that these two are being banned while the cleric gets in the UK.

The UK for far too long has been attacking freedom of speech and this must stop. The UK is completely wrong for this and must reverse the decision.

Should Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have the ban reversed? Should the UK start respecting freedom of speech?

We ban a lot of retards from entering our nation, fascist scum coming to fire up the criminals in the EDL are not welcome for obvious reasons.

It's also why we have banned every single radical cleric to come here and fire up the Muslims.

What you are saying is that to not allow a fascist cuntbag and a retarded pro-terrorism nutjob into our nation is limiting their speech? May i remind you that like your first amendment only applies to American citizens our free speech rights only applies to citizens in our nation.

If i state the truth i'll get another infraction and possibly a ban. So i'll just say this- extremists shouldn't be allowed to contaminate free society. The results can be disastrous. Just look at places with sharia law and Islamic extremists in positions of power. There was a thread sometime back here about a woman in Dubai getting jailed for reporting that she'd been raped.

You want this to happen to the great western countries too? No? Then use your votes to do something about it.

And yes, i'm not a brit but if i ever immigrate to UK(or for that matter, any country in this world) the first thing i'll do is to make sure i respect all local laws and traditions instead of taking benefits from the government and then posting hate speech like those muslims do.

A wikipedia search for "American Freedom Defense Initiative" redirects you to the entry for the "Stop Islamization of America," a recognized hate group. As irritatingly stupid as they apparently are, there's probably more harm being caused by denying them entry than harm being prevented. America tolerates the westboro baptist church, so why can't the UK tolerate a couple retards for a couple days?

They are literally preventing people from entering the country simply because they're asininely stupid, which probably isn't worth it. Doesn't it feel a little dirty? How much harm could those idiots cause? And if they do incite some kind of violence, then the blame should fall squarely on those who react and use them as an excuse to act foolish. This is something very different to yelling fire in a crowded theater, which is clearly a reasonable limitation. Maybe the best thing about America is its freedom of speech. The US wouldn't do this. They might drone attack them, but they wouldn't publicly renounce their integrity.

UK has no classical constitution and thus is guided by the contemporary whims of whatever is popular with legislators. Freedom of speech is curtailed more in the UK than in the US.

Excellent points except it's radical Muslims doing this and not the moderates.

Britain is losing more respect with crap like this.

Wow. That's going to piss off not only irrational muslim haters but ordinary, sensible people as well. How about no religion gets tacit endorsement from publicly funded television? Everyone is just going to be thinking, "i dislike muslims even more now." Even if it wasn't their idea, and instead some kind of well intentioned gesture from whoever controls the public television services.

As far as I understand, UK does not have a constitutional right to freedom of speech. So, you can't apply your concept of freedom of speech to the UK. It sucks, but not all nations have allow the same rights as the US.

BTW, does this worry anyone in the UK:

He added: “Islam is the fastest growing ideology in this country — by some accounts Britain could be a Muslim country by 2015.”
Abu Zakariyya, of the radical Islamic Emergency Defence group, added: “We want to see Sharia law in the UK and only God knows if this could be a step towards it.”

May i remind you that like your first amendment only applies to American citizens our free speech rights only applies to citizens in our nation.

That is not entirely clear and possibly incorrect. The 1st amendment only says "Congress shall make no laws.. abridging the freedom of speech.." It doesn't say about speaker's identity. This has become even more contentious issue since the SCOTUS' recent ruling in Citizens United v. FCC, where the court gave corporations unlimited spending power in elections. Subsequent decisions contradict that ruling in many regards as well.

Of course I know nothing about U.K.'s tradition or laws about free speech so can't comment much other than from a common sense ground.

Someone here posted the stats that show Islam taking over the UK here once.
Apparently Muslim women are going to be having 13 kids each to gain a majority.
All those kids are going to have to kill off most of the Brits to in order to get an Islamic state.
It's actually a pretty stupid thing to be afraid of

That is a pretty retarded statement since this has nothing to do with English freedom of speech laws which ONLY regards citizens and it WORKS THE EXACT SAME WAY IN THE US.

Are you serious? Calling Geller and Spencer fascists? The EDL are criminals? Your ignorance shows no bounds.

Except that you guys still have radical clerics and allow some to come in. You guys aren't doing anything to stop radical Islam.

You guys don't even have free speech. You idiots are taking it away to protect radical Islamists.

You're entirely correct about that but there is a difference, we don't allow a whole heap of folks to enter our nation and it's not only because we don't want to have the retards at EDL burning mosques and rioting, it's also because some of them have previous inconsistencies in their documentation. Like Michael Savage, he's a persona non grata in the UK too.

I've posted about this several times in replies to you, you can look up who the EDL are, it's a bunch of unemployed career criminals.

Geller is a self admitted fascist that supports genocide and Spencer have MANY TIMES advocated terrorism as a means to discourage the "unwanteds" from being free to practice their religion.

We have free speech for our citizens, not for retarded neo nazis and fascists from the US.

I'm sorry but a no is a no, take the fucking hint.

You're lying about the EDL. There might be some unemployed members who had their jobs lost because of the government but they are good people. They want to make sure the country isn't taken over.

Any evidence of them being "fascists"? And why do they ban these two but not all the radicals in England?

Not this again, i posted the fucking rap sheets of the leaders of the EDL and showed you who the EDL are in a previous post, look it up because i'm not going to post it everytime you make a thread.

I don't know who the EDL are? I fucking live here, i know exactly who these chavs and neds are and what they do, they are who some on this forum would refer to as "thugs".

Pamela Geller is a self admitted fascist, you don't have to do anything more than to read her own words on the matter, Spencer has advocated a "final solution" for Muslims. I just love that Pamela who is a Jew can't get what the fuck they are preaching...

There are reasonable people who are for a less multicultural society, i listen to them at times and they have points, the likes of Pamela, Spencer and Goering are not people worth listening to, they are people worth hanging from the nearest tree.

Just FYI as has already been said the US constitution does not only apply to US citizens in the US. The supreme court has spoken on this unequivocally.
