You have to go for less mainstream and hipster-approved stuff to find anything that comes close to qualifying. For example, My Bloody Valentine or A Tribe Called Quest.

btw my dad and anyone else that loves 80's glam metal hates Nirvana and anything related.

EDIT: And I just have to say that while I can at least tolerate most of what has been mentioned (a good portion I enjoy), I don't like Weezer at all. They exemplify the college-student-with-a-guitar-thinking-he's-the-next-singer-songwriter-genius-romantic-of-our-era kind of indie rock that plagues the campus park benches.

Not really. I have favorite genres at different times, and they often change. Currently, it's electronic ambient, and space music. I've been enjoying not thinking about the music, and just having it create moods and soundscapes. Previously I was listening to a lot of post rock, and pre big band jazz.

Disregarding my general dislike the Beatles Hey Jude is god awful, the issue with your statement though is I would never be caught dead at a concert where the beatles were playing and if I was, then yes I would sit with a scowl on my face because it really is trash.

What about classical stuff like Mozart and such? Can people really hate that?

I think they're ok, but really? I see people shit on them all the time. Their fanbase has crossover between progressive metal, alternative, and mainstream rock and as a result many people diametrically opposed to their style are forced into contact with their fans. As a consequence: hate.

I just don't think it's possible for everyone to like a group. Peoples tastes vary greatly.

For instance, not a group - but does anyone hate Amazing Grace played on bagpipes? I'm sure there are some out there.

As for the Beatles, I don't hate them, but I certainly don't listen to them by choice. The wife on the other hand loves them. It's all opinion. Remember, people who grew up in the 20's hated the Beatles ;p
