Is there a books on tape/cd equivalent to Netflix?

My grandmother's eyesight is failing pretty badly at this point, so she can no longer read or watch tv or movies. She's got severe arthritis so getting out of the house or doing things with her hands, even cooking, is very difficult.

I'd like to get her a subscription to a mail in books on cd program - something online based would be perfect since she could call me to put together a queue. Is anybody familiar with a site like this?

Thanks!

Some libraries offer pickup/delivery services for people like your grandmother....especially if she's classified disabled.

I'd agree with the whole "consult your local library" since they will be...local...and your grandmother will probably be more comfortable dealing with an institution that she has known since she was a kid.

Part of what I'm hoping to do is establish a queue though, since she'll need assistance in reading the descriptions to select books. Overall the library seems to have a rather limited selection of audio books (I'm in King County, WA, one of the best library systems in the country, and they still have a pretty limited selection) so I was looking online.

I'll check out SimplyAudiobooks, thanks!

AC - I am assuming that your grandmother is in the state of Washington. If that is not the case let me know and I can find the appropriate agency. Here is their contact information. I will shoot you a PM as well.

Edit: This is not the normal public library books on tape service, see PM.

while the library has a limited selection. you can get any book from any library with inter-library loans.

the library here has it where you log on and then can search and request whatever book.

She's actually in the north bay in California, San Rafael area. That's one of the reasons queue is so important; I can get her set up with a nice long list once in a while and she doesn't have to fuss about figuring out what she'll get in the mail next.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely looking into the library again.

IIRC the Marin County library actually lets you DL books on tape in either MP3 or whatever the hell iPod format is. My gf is from there and I know she's done it through that library.

Makes a queue tricky, hm. She doesn't really use any technology more complicate than a tv remote so downloading and iPods are going to be out of her reach. I wanted to handle all the technical stuff from my side (remotely, since I'm out of state) and she can just deal with mail.
