Is there a place for wireless compatibility list

My girlfriend just got a Toshiba Tecra which has integrated wireless, but for whatever reason it isn't compatible with whatever network she has at school. I know things are "suppose" to be compatible, since they are after all IEEE 802.11 (a/b/g), but from what I hear, things are far from comtable. I was wondering if there was a list somewhere that specifies which routers work with which PC Card. I am thinking about getting a netgear wireless Router, but a Linksys PC Card, because I am pretty sure the Linksys will work for my girlfriends school network, and there is a netgear router deal right now.

What do you guys think.

Not sure about a list but if they adhere to the standard it shouldn't be an issue. One likely issue with your girlfriend's connection is that the authentication protocol probably isn't setup correctly (LEAP, EAP, etc). If her school requires LEAP then the NIC has to support it through firmware or a third-party app like Odyssey from Funk software or Aegis from here. Knowing what the school requires as far as the client setup goes will more than likely address your issue. I'd guess they're requiring a parameter you don't have enabled.

They use Aegis actually. That is the client I remember trying to help her download. Can you give me more information as to what all this stuff is? Like what is the point of Aegis or Odyssey, and how do they work? That little diagram on the Aegis website didn't really do it for me.

Well then my hunch should be correct, if it is an 802.11b/g network, then it should work with the internal wireless card on my g/f computer. The only thing is to figure out exactly how to get the settings right.

I read the Aegis specs and it said this:
"Supports wired or wireless network interface cards that support the standard NDIS 5.1 for 802.11 WLAN object identifiers (OID)."

Now I don't know if my integrated card supports NDIS 5.1, and I was wondering if you guys think that might be the key? In fact I am not even exactly sure what chipset I have, either it is a Atheros or an Intel. I need to figure that out too.
