i read that the keyboard does not work until windows boots. which would mean no access to bios, or OS installs? I was really looking to buy this combo but if this is the case I may have to just the get mx700 and stick to a wired keyboard.

IMO the MX700 is too heavy because it is wireless. I like the MX510 better. Myabe i will get the MX1000 when there is one that is not wireless.

The only reason not to get the MX Duo is price.

I got a MX510 and a Microsoft keyboard for 1/2 the price

I love mine. No lag what so ever.

Best part for me is, I hate keyboard drawers, so I bought a desk that doesn't have one. So, with the cordless keyboard, I have a perfect little space for the kb between the top of my cpu shelf/tower and the top of my desk. Slides in nicely, clearing the desk completely for when the Missus wants to do her school work.

My keyboard batteries died at just a little over 19 months.

Mouse batteries last for about 3 days if you use for 8+ hours a day.

once upon a time I was tech support for logitech products.
a new set of quality batteries will last on average about a year in the keyboard, they can last longer but the range drops.
the batteries in the mx 700 will keep their charge for up to 4-5 days when new. I've had an mx 700 since they came out and my batteries still hold a charge for a day and a half. they can be replaced with any AA NiMh rechargables. logitech dosen't support rechargables in their other cordless products but I have them in all of my cordless stuff. The best thing I like about it is they have a great warranty the rk53 mouse I have has a 5 year warranty and so does the keyboard.

One reason you might not want to buy it is because the MX3100 combo is coming out in a a little while (March/April) and will include the LX 700 Keyboard and MX1000 Mouse

i'm not a fan of battery powered stuff.. they go dead.. if rechargable, then go for it... but if you are serious gamer, you won't want the cordless

I should prefer logitech "cord mouse" than logitech cordless mouse
I always think that cordless mouse would cause more problems
