Is there a simple Star Wars dogfighting game?

I'm not a big gamer, but I'm hoping to find a Crimson Skies type of game, except set in the Star Wars universe. Is there a game that I can simply install, plug in a game controller, and start fighting with either Rebel or Empire ships? One that doesn't require a steep learning curve or require me to use alot of keyboard commands, like a flight simulator? If there is, which one is the best as far as fun factor and graphics? TIA for any input you guys can give me.

Back when DOS was king, Tie Fighter was a great game, though rather flight simmish, in an arcadey way.

Besides that, the best Star Wars games are the Rogue Squadron series. Rogue Squadron 1 and Battle for Naboo were ported to PC from n64 and look rather dated.
Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike for the Gamecube have no PC ports, but are better games I believe, and absolutely gorgeous.

There's also plenty of crappy star wars games that have been made, but your best bet is probably the rogue squadron series. (preferrably the gamecube games, but if you must have a pc game you're stuck with the old games)

The space missions in star wars battlefront 2 came the closest to my dream of bombing an imperial star destroyer/mon calamari cruiser plus a couple frigates..

Thanks for all the input, guys. I thought for sure that there would be a semi-recent SW game of the type I was looking for, but I guess I'm out of luck.

Since that's the case, is there a normal type of dogfighting game (with regular aircraft) that is more recent than Crimson Skies for pc?

Works for me (i got it ). Didn't try it on my new SLI machine (doubt the game needs that much power), but it did run fine on my 9800XT machine (Windows XP)

star wars starfighter was actually decent, and not bad looking.

I LOVED X-Wing Alliance. Loved that game. The graphics is probably dated for today's standards, but the story and online play of that game was just too awesome.

My copy of Star Fighter had problems. I tried it out and the menu doesn't ever stop cycling (or slow down doing so) long enough to be sure what you select from it. I did start a tutorial flight, but it also didn't seem to like the Logitech joystick. It was very hard to control.

And there seemed to be no patches, no FAQs, not much of any support still in place, and it's only about three years now since it was released, I think.

:frown:

The PC I tested it on has an XP 3000 cpu, an Asus A7N8X-X system board, 512 MB's of RAM, and an FX 5900 VGA.

I want to see a re-release of X-wing or Tie Fighter using today's technology. That'd be awesome. I killed so much time on X-Wing.

Tie Fighter was the bomb. X-wing Alliance had it's moments, too, but didn't fulfill the same exhiliration (for me, anyway).

But, while it's not simple, when it's out, I'd wager the best dogfighting Star Wars game would be This.

I loved X-wing and Tie Fighter, two of my favorite games ever. X-Wing vs Tie combined the ownage, I didn't play it as much as I'd have liked though.

thats a real arcady style game. nice graphics and could be fun if the controls were a little better. maybe of you used a console type controller it would be better.

theres a demo for it out there too. you can also buy it and download it from UBIsofts's site

Wow. SW using the Freespace engine. Very nice! I'll have to keep my eye on this one.

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter or X-Wing Alliance. The latter has better graphics and lets you fly more ships. If I remember correctly, it did have some kind of customizable skirmish mode.
And if you play the campaign, you get to fly the Falcon into the Death Star.

I COMPLETELY Agree. I used to play in some clans back on MSN Zone. It was a great little community. If you used to play there and in the WoW's, pm me
