Nah. But I've never torn chunks off, just and a hell of a time getting the shells off.

1. Hit bottom of a boiled egg with spoon (make a small hole)
2. Blow it hard
3. Peel it. The shell will just come off

One of very useful things I've learned in the service.

yes

take teh egg and turn it so the fatter side is faceing you, poke a small hole in that part of the egg with a needle or pin, what you have done is poked a hole into the air sack of teh egg, now when you boil them the air can escape and thus wont create as much pressure, making your egg easier to shell later

best hard egg boiler ever

this kit, which we got as a wedding present, comes with a guidebook that gives you a lot of tips and tricks regarding how to make your eggs correctly. they recommend that after you boil the eggs (and they cool down), you put the egg under cold water, then push it against a hard surface (to break the cracks), and peel it off that way. really simple!

I know with oranges, you roll them around on a hard surface with your palm on top applying pressure for a minute or two, then when you tear it, the peel falls off way easy. With eggs, I think you're supposed to crack open the top portion around the sides and then slide off the bottom 3/4.

Like a few said, put them in cold water after boiling (I put them in ise water). This allows the egg white to contract while the shell stays the same size (or something like that- I saw it on Alton Brown or America's Test Kitchen or something like that). I then roll the eggs on a table, craking all of the shell before peeling- I can usually get it off in 3-4 pieces.

Here's a trick I learned from my mom.. After it's done boiling, pour out the hot water and fill the pot with cold water. Pour that out and repeat until the water is cool. Eggs should peel easier.

I've seen people roll the eggs under their hand to crack the shell so its easier to peel. You might try that.
