Is there a way to boot / mess with someone on my network?

I have a wireless network and I have to not use WEP for certain reasons. Usually no strangers come on my network until recently. How do I boot him off / mess around with him? I am using a 2wire router (2701hg-b).

A MAC ban is definately the easiest way to get rid of him. If you want to have some fun though, see if he has any network shares...

MAC filtering is very easy to defeat. You could make it interesting and use a web-auth package, M0n0wall (which is free) has one built in.

Mac filtering will secure your wireless network for about... 10 minutes if not less.

Sorry mate but the best way is to use WPA. There is a reason that exists after all as opposed to just MAC filtering.

I wouldn't recommend "messing" with a WiFi "guest". There's no way to know if the intrusion is accidental or intentional. It's REALLY easy to end up on the wrong WiFi network in a residential neighborhood. You'll have to deny access with the tools available to you.

If you don't care that anyone who wants to can read everything you transmit/receive to your WiFi access point, then MAC filtering is probably the easiest approach.

Is MAC filtering really that easy to defeat? That's a bummer? I use WEP and MAC address filtering. Should I switch to something else?

The security of WEP really depends on how much data you transmit. If you only use it occasionally and only for short transmissions, then it would take quite a while to break WEP. If you use it constantly, then you should change to WPA.

It would take a script kiddy with freely available online tools maybe 10-15min to get into your network. Drop MAC address filtering and upgrade to WPA2 or WPA.

This is incorrect, even if your WEP-encrypted network is largely idle there are methods where an attacker could flood your AP with requests, causing it to transmit encrypted traffic which is than captured and used to crack your key.
