Is there a way to redirect specific emails in Gmail rather than forward them?

The organization I work for has a public email address that uses google apps. There's one or two people that check that address and forward the emails that come in to the appropriate people. Of course, at times, people reply to the forwarded email rather than the person that sent the original email, so the reply doesn't get to them and instead goes back to our main account, creating general confusion.

Is there a way in gmail (or an extension) that adds the ability to redirect the email to the appropriate staff person (so it shows up in their email box from the original sender rather than as a forward from our main email)?

Or if this better handled by an IMAP app, any suggestions on a simple one for Windows or Android that supports redirect/resend?

Thanks for any help.

You can create a filter with specific words or names that will be redirected to the appropriate email account. Those emails will then have the correct Reply To address.

From Gmail, go to Settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses > Create a new filter. From that you can choose From, Subject, or Has the words. Add your criteria and click Create filter with this search. Choose Forward it to and choose an email address (add them if necessary). You can also choose to Skip the Inbox, Mark as read, Apply the label, Always mark it as important or Categorize it if desired, then click Create filter. You can create multiple filters.

We tried doing something like that, but it didn't work very well (emails would go to the wrong person at times or not get forwarded at all). It'd be a lot easier if there was a manual way of doing that same kind of thing.

I found a "resend" option in Outlook which I thought might work, but while it keeps the name of the original sender when you do it, the "from" email address is still our own central email account so the replies still wind up there.

Filtering is the best way to do this, the difficult part is properly setting up the filtering. If people are using a web form to send inquiries, then it shouldn't be too difficult to set up a proper subject or add a specific keyword from a drop-down list.

If people are clicking an "email to" link on a specific webpage, you can use one of these tricks to specify the "To" email address which could be filtered to the correct user/dept.

Examples:
mailto:company+security@gmail.com goes to Security dept/specific user
mailto:company+support@gmail.com goes to Technical Support/specific user

or

mailto:c.ompany@gmail.com goes to Security dept/specific user
mailto:compan.y@gmail.com goes to Technical Support/specific user

If they are initiating emails manually then you can tell them to what to put as the subject (eg, Security or Support).
