Hi guyz, I want to add radio capability to my PC and the devices I've found are TV tuners with FM tuners, but I like to listen to talk radio and get news casts from radio which are all AM waves, NOT FM. Is there a tuner card with AM ? I don't like having too many devices so getting a radio set top is out of the question.

Thanks guyz!

Not what you're looking for, but there are plenty of internet radiocasts with stuff like that.

Ditto. If I want music on my PC, I'll listen to my MP3's. I don't need FM for that. I need AM. I wish someone made a AM tuner card or USB device for PC

AM is too difficult to shield from the internal computer noise. I pipe in AM radio from another room because most stand-alone AM-FM radios don't stand up to computer RFI in the same small room.

ADS Tech makes an ISA card that does AM and FM. I bought one brand new less than a year ago, I think right off their web site. I think it was called Cadet PC Radio or something like that.

A USB device with shielded antenna plug would work fine. Of course the Antenna would need to have a decent shielded line to prevent ELF ingress. CRT's are a source of ELF as well.

The ISA card is nice, but ISA is absent in *most* recent systems.

Been looking for a PCI card with AM for a while, no luck. I don't think they exist. I love sports radio, and working 8-5, I miss my fav shows, so I wanted to record them. Since I haven't been able to find a card, I just did the next best thing and used the head phone jack on my stereo to the line-in jack on my computer. Then I use Absolute MP3 Recorder to schedule the recordings and it works like a charm.

If this is what you are interested in doing, and don't have a tuner nearby, just use a cheapo walkman and leave it on all the time. I think that's what I'll switch to because I need to use my tuner for other things since it is my primary sound for my computer.

good luck.

I miss ISA so much... There is nothing gained by eliminating very widely used technology especially when nothing better has replaced many ISA cards. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to PCI.

Jazz, you might also want to check out the NewQ Platinum. It has a built-in FM tuner only, but it does have an Aux selection, where you can plugin whatever you want, be it an AM radio or whatever. Then, you can listen to your AM stations on your PC speakers.

Is that a Creative product?

Why not just get a cheapo $10 clock/radio. It's not like you need the sound quality with AM like you would want with FM. The only reason I see in having a radio card is if you are going to record stuff. If the reception sucks wherever your desk is, it's not going to get any better inside a computer. Just run an antenna if that will help. Also all sound card have an aux in like the FM card mentioned above.

If you want to record, just do what I suggested in my last post. If you aren't going to record, just buy a clock radio.

Buy a cheapo radio with headphone out then plug it into your Line-in on soundcard.

Hah, exactly, it's so easy. The only option you don't have is changing stations from a program on the computer, whoopdy-doo.
