Is there an interest for a Christmas Race in Folding@Home?

Christmas 2005 TAS and the Folding-TeAm did a Christmas Race. We did a lot of crunching and had a lot of fun. People got together, posted and really encouraged each other.

Is it time for a follow-up?
TAS against some other crunchers?
A challenge?
A race?

Please post here your ideas and opinions!

One idea would be:
Start December 1, end December 31 @ midnight UTC.
Two teams: TAS being one of them.
All and any comps to be used.
Petrus doing the stats.
GleeM and other Folders helping out with links to How-to and FAQ and with practical advice.
All crunching and trying to help the TeAm to rise to rank 22.

Edit November 18: Changed headline.

I had lots of fun last time

I'm an old TASser so I'll crunch with them, I'd guess TAS will need a few more volunteers because I am expecting a great F@H TeAm turnout for "Christmas Race 2007"!

I might average 2,500 ppd during December - kids home more, playing games on crunchers, holidays off and a week of vacation away from sneakernetted work computers, might even be lower

Let's get a Mini-Race going. It's time to take the belt away from Jim.

We could actually race against another team, if nobody minds losing the belt for a while.

I'd be interested for sure. I might have to get a PS3 for this. Would have to convince the wife of the benefits.

I'm the under average post/day guy but do enjoy reading the DC thread on a daily basis.

Sure, I'm up for a race!

Uhh...exactly how does this work? Two teAms, TAS & xxx, then we choose which to join for the race? So... change the username but keep 198 (of course).

Sorry for the dumb question

If this works like last time:

No need to change User Name. Peter will keep track of who is on which TeAm for the stats.

All that is needed is to say "Yes" I want to get in on the fun. And if you have a preference on which team you want to be - either F@H TeAm or TAS.

It is helpful to post your average Points Per Day so Peter can try to match up teams as close as possible. If there are more participants on the F@H TeAm, some may have to volunteer to help the TAS TeAm.

Everyone is welcome! The more the merrier

Well I was thinking it would be as in 2005 and as GLeeM has described. I'll start a F@H-race thread, you post the names there, I'll make a proposal for the teams, then we look at that, comment ... and start. I'll post stats, you all comment and post. We all have fun.
Quite simple.

I'm in, but I'm not sure how winter break will go (after the first week in december I'll be away from my machines!)

I'm game for being assigned to whichever team needs the help. My ppd has slipped the last couple of weeks, but who knows what will happen in December....

Well, I am only at 13k ppd, but I do have another 3 machines that could add 4500ppd to that maybe. Let go !

Count me in.
I think I was on the F@H team last year.

I'm in the 700 to 720 ppd range.

I should be approaching 1,000,000 points toward the end of Dec. That would be a nice MM to go for while racing.

No idea what my performance would be ,I was just running it on my 1950 Pro which got me about 550 ppd IIRC ,however for a race I'd throw my new quad at it!

Currently its at 3GHz but I'm hoping within the next week or so to clock it to somewhere between 3.2-3.4GHz ,maybe higher if I'm lucky

Am I right in saying that I'd get more ppd in ditching the GPU client & allowing all 4 cores to crunch F@H SMP?

I'll fold for either teAm but can only do 1100 ppd unless I can convince my wife to let me build a Q6600.

"only" ??? Oh, Mark, so modest. I'm gonna go join the TAS group, just cuz I know you'll have to go out and buy some more equipment (just like he feels compelled to do on those very rare occasions when I actually best him in the daily totals). I love spending his money. MM

edit: actually, the last couple of weeks Mark has been exceeding 15k ppd. Just for the record.

<-----DainBramaged. I'm in for F@H. I could average 1100-1200ppd, but Call of Duty 4 has been taking up several hours a day on my PS3.

I'll be happy to lend some holiday cheer!

Count me in.

-Sid

(PPD seems to be hanging at around 2.1K or so. No I won't tell if that would change for a race )

This is just great!
I'll sit down on Sunday, post a proposal for teams and simple rules and then we will start in a few days ...

The main rule is - and has been for a very long time: "have fun!"

But I just put back the box that got me there to bleedinedge. Today I won;t even hit 8500.
I also added a box recently, and that one went back to bleedinedge also, so my average may drop 3500 from 15k where it is now.

Here are my overall stats:
Date of last work unit 2007-11-17 17:16:29
Total score 4626720
Overall rank (if points are combined) 153 of 849500
Active processors (within 50 days) 11
Active processors (within 7 days) 10
