Is there any other way to share files faster?

I have about 20 episodes of Top Gear on one laptop, what's the fastest way to transfer these files to another laptop I have? Both have wireless capacity, both are connected to the Interrnet through a G capacity router. Last night I tried to transrfer 100mb of files, it took me 10 min to finish it! Damn, I need it faster!

gig ethernet and gigabit ethernet crossover cable (if your cards don't auto detect if it is a nic or switch on the other end)

then use ftp for fastest transfer (much quicker thatn MS networking)

Something's funky with your set up. Wireless G is 54Mbps theoretically, which works out to about 2-3 MBps in actual use after you factor in overhead. 100 MB should transfer in less than a minute.

That's what I thought too. Although one of my laptop is only capable of wireless B But that still shouldn't take 10 min...maybe I am doing something wrong.

What I did last night is that I set the top gear folder to "share" and use the other laptop to copy and paste the files....it's hell slow! Plus, one of the laptop just kept losing the connection so I had to start over and over again...it feels like I am using the Internet to transfer the files instead of just the connection between the 2 laptops...

Any thought?

Yep I have an ethernet crossover cable you are welcome to have for free, if you are interested LMK.

It would be 100x faster and easier than using WiFi.

Might even reach you before your transfer is done using WiFi

Thanks RossMan. How much does it usually run for at Staples? Maybe I can just pick one up locally.

CA - Go to your local Fry's where you can buy 15' cross ethernet cable for about $7.99

Seattle - Staples.com selection but I don't see crossover?
