Is there any way we can destroy the RIAA?

Just curious, is there any activism or lobbying group set out to destroy the RIAA?

I should add, I'm not against what they DO technically.. I'm against their methods and want to see them taken down.. hopefully nailed with multiple class action suits for something or whatever it takes.

1. download pirated music
2. record companies are destroyed
3. bands make money from touring, merchandise and some cds
4. actual artists survive and profit
5. the end of manufactured music and payola

I dont like paying for music and for the most part, I dont. However, the RIAA is not bad, they are absolutely right. However, some of these new copy right protection things (DRM, etc) are stupid, but somethign has to be done, so I cannot blame them.

I agree.

And better, less fabricated music is created. Less of this britney spears stuff where they hire 200 "expert" songwriters creating cheesy hooks.

Maybe we'll get back to the basics once again. Guitar, drums, SINGER (yes a real one, not a Jessica Simpson)

Heck I even like listening to people in the streets play the bongo and guitar together. I'd rather drop $5 to those guys than a jessica simpson album.

I think there should be labels, just hopefully we can run out Sony and the other huge ones and the market will be all indie/smaller labels

Maybe not. But its a nice dream.

I have a better idea.

1. download pirated music and movies
2. Record and studio companies go bankrupt
3. artists starve and either die off or get real jobs
4. profit until another vertically integrated monopoly just as evil takes its place

The RIAA is a dinosaur with an outdated business model living on borrowed time. It will self-destruct sooner or later.

Just buy music for bands who's labels are not part of the RIAA.
Do not listen to or support and RIAA endorsed musicians.

the annoying thing is that the music protection systems they use, can on a high end system affect the quality of music.....which is really annoying....for budger range users its not a problem......

the problem is, the music industry, like the football industry (in England, so yes i mean soccer) has become all about the money.........the music/game are only a secondary consideration now to the companies/people that run them.......

such a shame....

IMO, the root cause is more the poor quality of music, yet high prices that force pirates to do what they do.

It is an outdated business model living on borrowed time. They are too cheap, and too stubborn (and too afraid) to find new or different avenues for revenue.

It IS possible, and they know that. What they fear is that its not AS profitable.. and it won't be.

You could never have such rigged BS as what they have now.. this extortion for horrible music is coming to an end.
Heck, its the super large record companies that sterilize music and make it horrible anyway.

Free market capitalism will remove the RIAA and all who it represents in due time. The people they are pissing off by sueing are rising up regardless.. its not a good PR stunt to sue people.

bands that are on labels that are not part of the riaa should have little stickers on their cds stating this so when people are buying cds they will beable to tell.

Funny thing is that it is less than a 100 year old business model that they evolved as the technology evolved up until the appearance of the cassette tape. That seems to be where they began fighting against the fair use rights of the consumer instead of figuring out how to modify the business model to work with the technology.

The most absurd this here is that anyone would think they need to destroy them. As if you're entitled to music or something.

Is it considered 'theft' to hum, or sing, a song which you have not purchased rights for?

The issue here has nothing to do with entitlement (well, I'm sure some feel they are entitled to it, but that's another discussion).

People won't accept being gouged to pay for music anymore. The piracy is just a byproduct of this (IMHO).

I think the record companies need to accept that they made a killing in a market that simply does not exist in the same form anymore. They need new methods of generating revenue and they need to accept that they simply will not make the kind of money they used to.
