My personal thoughts are .. no. Despite the unfathomable expanse of the universe, if there is life out there, I don't think it's more developed than humans.

So, whaddaya guys think? Is there life in the universe other than what's on Earth? And if so, how advanced?

Due to the fact that there are billions upon billions upon billions of stars and if it came down to about 1 out of every 10 stars had at least one planet, one of those planets is bound to have life just based on probabilities.

Heck yeah. The only planet's we're sure there's no life on are the ones in our solar system. And even some of those are skeptical (ie Europa). There are potentially billions of trillions of planets out there in our galaxy alone. Multiply that by billions of trillions (mabey more) of galaxies. Simple probability suggests that there will be life. It may range from primordial cells to post-technological civilizations, but its there somewhere.

Intelligent life similar to humans and on the same tech or higher? Unlikely. Any life at all such as microbes, small insects? Yes

I don't think so. I do believe it mentioned something about there being life out there. But I guess it all depends on who is interpreting the bible.

Some people believe there is because it would be a waste of space if there weren't. This is irrational, and has no basis on any real facts. Some people believe there isn't, but once again with no real basis on facts. They honestly don't know or have any clue. In fact, this arguement is about as bad, if not worse, than political arguements. Since nobody here knows anything about the topic, and has no facts on it whatsoever, there is absolutely no reason to even discuss it.

Like Einstein said, "God doesn't play dice". That being true there has to be life on a multitude of other worlds. Especially considering we are surely on a course to wipe ourselves out of existence.

Can't see why life on earth should be the only "accident" that has occurred in the universe

Even at that note, just go out into the countryside (some place far from the city lights) and just look up and you'll see so much with just the naked eye.

Wow I believe this is the stupidest comment I have seen on here in a while.

But, my answer is definitely yes, and I believe they may be more developed, and some less developed, but the problem is, on another planet far off from here, maybe in another universe (If you believe in the tunnel theory) what defines life?

Interesting. I think the definition of life remains the same, i.e. a living thing that can function independently. Add intelligence to it and you have an intelligent life form as opposed to flora, coral reefs etc.

First of all, that quote has absolutely nothing to do with extraterrestrial life, and secondly Einstein has been proven wrong time and time again regarding this quote, which was his objection to the probabilistic rules of the quantum world.

Sounds a lot like the anthropic principle at work.

hmm got me thinking of a interesting situation. lets say the government somehow sent some kind of rocket or whatever to places we have never been to, extremely far away and we found a planet comparable to ours, with life on it, and humans in very early stages, like cavemen.

the govt. would obviously want to colonize the place or atleast make it possible for some of us to live there. do you think they would share the news with the world and try to send people over there to live among the cavemen and help speed up the evolution process, or do you think it would be possible that they would decide to clear the planet of all the cavemen and never release that they were ever there, just that they found a planet with life on it(plants, animals etc)?
