Does anyone know or own one? I'm in the process of reconfiguring some of my pc's and I think and going to switch motherboards.

Also will my LX chipset motherboard do 100mhz fsb?

Whats the best CPU i CAN run on a LX chipset ppga motherboard?

no PPGA P2s to the best of my knowledge... they were all slot-1

All Pentium IIs are Slot 1.

The only PPGA processor is the Celeron, up to 533MHz.

The 440LX chipset does not support 100MHz FSB. It only officially supports the 66MHz FSB, although motherboard manufacturers generally implement 75 and 83 as well.

Abit's LX6 even had the 92MHz FSB, although PCI devices are pulled way out of spec.

Perhaps mobile P2's are PPGA. Actually I think they are PBGA, but not sure. The mobile P2's are basically Celerons by design.

OK, so a ppga celeron 533(not A celermine128) is the best i can hope for.

Anyone know what the performance difference would be on a 450A and a 533?
Should be about equal since the 450 has a 100mhz bus and the 533 has a 66mhz bus, right?

all celerons previous to the 800 were 66mhz fsb, there was no "450A." there was a 433 and 466. if you took a 400 and ran it at 75mhz bus it would be 450, and it might be faster than a 533.

A PPGA 533 with slotket is probably as good as you'll do. You may need to flash your bios to the latest. My Asus P2L97 lx board has 66/75/83 fsb , but the 83 really screws things up, so I've got my cel 500 running at 563 on the 75mhz fsb.
I've read on the Asus forums, though, that the latest beta bios will support coppermines with a slotket that can appropriately lower the voltage. They would be running slower than rated, though, on a 75mhz bus.
What's the make of your board?

The Abit LX6 supports 60/66/75/83 FSB settings, though it has 100mhz setting also, but its not "official" but its in the bios.

Czar,
My Asus fsb is set by jumpers, max 83. Is it technically possible for Asus to introduce a 100mhz fsb setting through a bios update?

Dont think so, I think the Abit LX6 was the only mobo that offered 100mhz fsb. But Abit clearly said that it was not 100% stable and might not even work on some setups.

No P2s were PPGA they were Slot 1, Mobile P2s were PBGA (Plastic Ball Grid Array).

The Abit LX6 is not actually a 100MHz option.....it's actually 92MHz.

A BIOS update will not implement a 100MHz FSB. This would normally require a new clock generator chip, replacing the one soldered onto the motherboard.

As with running the BX at 133, running the LX chipset at 100MHz would pull the AGP bus out of spec as it doesn't have the 2/3 divider. Most LX boards don't have the 1/3 PCI divider either.

people need to think a little bit. whem someone says "450A" and "100 MHz FSB" in the same breath, they mean a cely 300a@450. the 300@450 would smoke a 533, by the way. the celeron's are REALLY held back by the 66 MHz FSB. you might consider getting a 366 that will run at 550. that is what i am in the process of doing.

Based on the lackluster reviews of the Cel 800, it seems they're held back by more than the 66 fsb. I love my 500 @ 562,though.

Been there done that. It works nicely with a GlobalWin FDP32 and some thermal goo, keeps it about 12-14C cooler then stock HSF. And I even manage to run it completely stable at 0.02v undervolt. (Abit BM6)

The best cpu for the LX chipset is the Celeron 533. No overclocking on the system bus is the best policy. If you want a 75fsb (9% memory boost) then choose the Celeron 466 and a 5400rpm hard drive. If you want the 83fsb (25% memory boost) then I suggest a Celeron 400 and a 7200rpm hard drive. These higher rpm hard drives seem to tolerate the 83fsb and 75fsb better than the older ones. Older hard drives scramble at these fsb speeds.
