Is this 128gb pny usb 3.0 flash drive for $44 any good?

This 128gb usb 3.0 flash drive has been selling for many weeks for $44. The company's logo is PNY which is a well-known company.

Here is the information and model number below:

PNY Turbo High Performance USB 3.0 Pen Drive (P-FD128TBOP-GE)

They also have a second model selling for $47 below:

PNY 128GB Turbo 3.0 USB Flash Drive (P-FD128TBAT2-GE)

This price is at least half if not more below that of any other usb 3.0 flash drive I have seen on the net. Plus there are no mailing costs or taxes.

If you give the OK on this drive I will probably get it unless someone knows of something at the same price or less that is reliable.

I just purchased a Sandisk 32gb drive from Amazon for $30 - and it is fast.

Windows 8.1 tells me it writes at 99MB/sec and reads at 170MB/sec.

I don't know about the PNY.

You should return it. For $12 more you would get 4 times as much storage space with the pny drive.

Well, it turns out that newegg.com is selling them as well for a few bucks more but newegg would not be selling them if they were defective so I think I'm going to pull the trigger.

I'm more worried about performance than space.

4 times more space is worthless to me if it takes 45 minutes to copy a few large files.

This thing reads/writes at around 190/130mb/sec, looks ugly/cheap but its fast.

Sequential writes are fast. Random writes are very slow. If you work with lots of small files, Sandisk is still king. If not, PNY, Kingston, Patriot, and Verbatim's are all good, and <50 for 128GB is a steal.
