Is this a decent home theatre system?

I don't want to spend several thousand on another system, as I'll probably be getting a really, really good system later down the road. This system has everything at least, but the question remains... is it any good?

Yamaha Dolby Digital/DTS Home Theater Receiver (HTR-5450) for $400

Boston System9000 for $1000

Hes not looking to spend 1400..... the system looks pretty good but you should go listen to it best buy...... also check their open box stuff. I got a Technics loaded reciever for 140

I personally prefer a refined unintrusive and stylish system.

Yes, yes I have. In fact I have owned B&amp;W speakers. I used to live 5 minutes away from their headquarters and manufacturing plant.

Are they the best speakers you've ever heard? What comes close?

Well, I sold them with my system in England before I moved. I have to say that I have not heard an equivalent speaker (talking about size and/or price) that matches them. I love the fact that the cones are made with kevlar.

I have the Bose system and I love the discreetness of the speakers, and the sound quality is amazing from such a small package. When guests walk in the room and the music is on they just do not see the speakers until you point them out.

A good friend of mine has B&amp;W's and they are great. He has had them for at least 15 years and they are still in great shape.

He swears by them


Edit: To stay on topic. The system you linked to is good value on two conditions.

1. You set up the system in a relatively small room
2. You never crank up the system and blow the speakers (<-easy to do on cheap systems)
