Is this a genius idea or something that has already been done...

AARRRGGHHHH. I yet again broke a device that is plugged in via a transformer. Broke the pin. Like on laptops that use a very delicate pin for power that is easily breakable, I seem to have a nack for breaking these things on other devices.
Couldn't manufactures just make a magnetic type device that would hold the cord in place and power either by contact or induction and yet just easily pull off if tugged on without breaking anything?

Apple uses some kind of magnetic connector on their laptops. I haven't seen it in person, but I think it can be kicked out without damage.

I have never in my life broken a power cord like this. I really have to wonder what kind of abuse people are heaping on their possessions that makes these sorts of failures common.

Me either.

The only problem I have with these things is keeping track of which goes where.

I have a collection of orphaned walwarts and unpowered pieces.

ive had my kids trip on the cord, pull the laptop off a table or couch and drag it across the room and not broken a pin off the power cord. the only time ive even seen one damaged is when one of the users at work didnt pay attention, jammed the plug in and bent it to the side. that was fixable. the second time he did it, he tried to fix it himself and clipped it off by accident. this is an engineer/ journeyman electrician with over 25 yrs experience, using a pair of scissors instead of getting a pair of needle nose out of his truck box.

My pain management doc and I have been discussing an implantable spinal cord stimulator...it charges through the skin magnetically. (not crazy about the idea...and it's only marginally successful for cases like mine)

I usually just end up with a short developing in the section of the cable that ISN'T easily replaceable. I wish they'd make both ends cables that you can simple unplug from the adapter.

Halo invented both computers and video games so I think you probably stole that idea from Halo.

That I can see. But, as Hannoverfist mentioned you can trip over the cord and send the laptop crashing to the ground without it bending the pin. It seems to me like it would take some pretty severe fumbling to screw up the pin. Of course, I thought the same about VGA, Parallel, and Serial ports and people always managed to screw up those pins too.
