Is this a good deal on a 2016 Mustang?

Saw a 2016 Ecoboost Premium Mustang with an automatic regularly priced at $33,580 discounted to $26,216 with an additional $1000 cash offer. Is this a good deal and would you jump on this?

Putting a similar car into Edmunds says average customer price is 28,800, so 26k sounds pretty good.

At the same time, I did some shopping for 2015's and 2016's last month and saw more than a few Ecoboost's in the low 20's with low mileage. You could roll in a pretty awesome extended warranty and still be a few grand under the new one.

Eh, for a few grand I'd rather have the new one equipped exactly the way I want. But that's just me (and I'm a bit picky).

At this point it is a one year old used car the second you drive it off the lot. That is the dilemma for people who buy leftovers. If you are keeping the car a long time it makes sense. If you plan on having it a few years and trading it then it's not really a great strategy.

Yes, and Mustangs lose value rather quick. Looking at used market, the Ecoboost goes for $17-24k depending on mileage/year (2015/16).

I haven't seen that at all, I've been seeing stupid high resale asks on used mustangs. Not sure if they're actually moving for anywhere close to that, but I've seen resale listings go for roughly $1-2K less than what you could get brand new off true car.

Not the case in a 250 mile radius around me (on cars/autotrader search). I've been tracking the value of my '15 GT more so than Ecoboost models - same situation not surprising, but I knew that going in w/ the purchase. If you can get the GT, it definitely is an amazing value for a V8.

you lose 20% right off the bat, pretty much regardless of car. we're looking at 2MY old cars, which is the steepest part of the depreciation curve. and it has to be that way, for the reason written above: lots of people would rather pay the extra couple thousand for a new car with no miles.

Check on Truecar to see what others in your area paid:

Does it come with adaptive cruise or no?

I know, but it is for my wife. A V8 all the way if it were for me.

I'm actually a huge fan of the new Ecoboost. It's way fun to drive, moreso than even the V6. Obviously a V8 would be awesome, but 31mpg is no joke either, plus it hauls!

yep, I think on paper the 4 cyl mustang is a winner, best of all worlds imo. never driven it though, so really can't say how it performs in the real world. I'd also take this over the camaro any day style-wise!

For me it was the opposite, I saw the 4-cylinder and was like, in a Mustang?? But then tested it out (stick & auto) and it was way fun! Plus if you mod, there are so many upgrades available...iirc they still haven't found the performance ceiling for the Ecoboost yet. The MAP Performance upgrade gives you like 400 horsepower & they have a video from a couple years ago of a 640hp model, and I remember reading an article that someone was doing a 900hp Ecoboost at SEMA. So you have a lot of room to play!

That plus it's far more usable than the Camaro imo. Camaro was not comfortable for me & had really bad visibility. Really really really bad visibility. In contrast, I fit comfortably in the Mustang, the new ones have IRS so the ride is decent (plus hey, 30+ mpg on the Ecoboost!), and visibility is surprisingly good.
