Is this a good deal for $399?

The computer is just going to be used mainly for web browsing(email, facebook, youtube, etc).

Or could I get a better build if I built it myself for less than $500?

Two of my friends have been asking me to build them a computer. Was wondering if it is just better to refer them this than build it myself if it saves them money.

Thanks for the reassurance Blain. I thought it was a good deal too. I don't think I could do a better build if I shopped for the parts on their behalf for $400.

I recommended it to both of my friends. Now it's up to them. Lol.

For $400, you can't compete with Dell (and HP, etc) once you factor in the cost of Windows, and that computer ought to make short work of the tasks you're considering.

Another vote to buy one and refer two!

me likes, but i would be more inclined to wait a month for ivy bridge if you want better graphics. be sure to spend that extra $50 for the bigger hard drive and $149 for a 17 inch (???) monitor....not!

If you live near a Micro Center, I saw a very similar Dell in Micro Center. According to their website, they had some Pentium and Celeron builds even cheaper. (Microcenter I mean. I assume it was their house brand.)

I think it is a good deal. A copy of WIN7 costs like $90 or so. Nothing wrong with looking at a Microcenter either. If you would build it yourself that price is hard to beat. However, I was thinking an i-3 2105 Might be better. Lots of times Dell kind of limits its choices.

How about a deal like this with a 20" monitor for ? $429.00

They may make a slim case if you want to put it on its side and use with a TV like an HTPC.
