Hi all,

I have selected some parts for building a gaming PC and wanted to check if it's a good one or not

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wOBJ

I am a little confused about the motherboard so please tell which one is better

Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
or
Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

1. It will be used for gaming, surfing and some school work.
2. My budget is $400 / INR 20,000
3. I will be buying my parts from India (No need to check parts from indian websites, you can choose parts from new egg, amazon etc.)
4. Will be buying from a local retail shop (see point 3).
5. NO brand preference.
6. Will be using these current parts- Sound card, Monitor, Windows 7, LG CD/DVD drive, floppy drive.
7. Overclocking - maybe.
8. Resolution - ABOUT 1152X768 or higher.
9. I plan to build it as soon as possible.
x. Software - none, I have it already.

Can you give us some idea what games you are expecting to play and at what resolution? Certain games (think BF3) are going to choke like hell on that CPU and the GPU isn't exactly blisteringly fast either.

I would be playing mostly age of empires II the conquerors expansion which doesn't require a lot high graphics, sometimes(only sometimes) I would be laying games like doom 3, CoD etc(less than once every one to two months). I can compromise if I won't be able to play these games except aoe as I may soon upgrade my graphic card

You can drop the CPU cooler. The retail Celeron comes with a fine cooler and you can't overclock anyways so it won't help you. Use that extra $10 for more speed on that CPU instead.

The 7750 is faster than the GTS 450 and is at the same price point so you should go with that.

The case has 60mm fans which are not very good for moving air and the PSU is probably of questionable quality. Pair that with India's terrible power grid and I think you're looking for trouble. Try finding another case and see what people think.

Why buy the memory in separate modules? A 2x4GB kit should be cheaper.

I would rather have Seagate ST500DM002 than a Toshiba drive mostly because I'm familiar with Seagate.

i think my build would suit your needs just fine

But it blows the budget by 20%, so it's kind of a non-starter.

OP, I don't see much point in linking to parts from vendors that you won't be ordering from. Every dollar (rupee) counts at your budget and 10% here and there makes the difference between a good PC an a not so good one. Can you give us any idea of pricing and selection at your local shop?

I would be buying locally not online. The prices locally would be Rs. 100-200 more or less on each component

Can someone help me choosing a case

I have made a new list according to the suggestions. Please see this at

Thank you everyone for your suggestions

The current list looks good apart from the case and power supply. First off, the case you picked already has a PSU. However, Logisys units aren't good. In India your best value decent quality option is probably Corsair VS350 or VS450. Combine it with a basic ATX case e.g. Cooler Master Elite.

There are cheaper B75 boards than the Gigabyte one. Asrock DGS for example.

I wouldn't pay $50 for a case on this budget. More like $30-35, something really basic.

GTX650 is decent but you should be able to find a 7770 for less, it performs the same.

VS350 would handle that build fine, just know that VS450 would more easily support upgrades

This is like my final list please review and evaluate

I have take note of all suggestions from lehtv's last post

It sure doesn't seem like it to be honest. You are back to the terrible Logisys PSU Overall, this build is worse than what you have posted earlier.

- CPU: Fine
- HSF: Unnecessary and not any better than the stock Intel
- Mobo: Not worth the price increase over the ASRock
- RAM: Fine
- HDD : Fine
- GPU: Fine, but really you should get whichever of the 7750 and GTX 650 is less expensive
- Case: OK, but still a little too expensive
- PSU: Utter garbage. Get the VS350 or VS450.

This build fits in a better rated PSU, which is critical for keeping your parts safe. An overspecced or unsafe PSU may lead to component failure or even fire. It also fits a little more power in on the CPU and graphics side. I ditched your CPU cooler because the one provided with the CPU should be enough. It's also a little closer to being at budget.

I realize that you are getting parts from a local shop, so the prices will vary. But seriously, try to get an 80 Plus certified PSU, preferably from Antec, Seasonic, Corsair, or XFX. You may also want a DVD drive, as it is helpful for installation purposes.

Also, for future reference, there is an option on PCPartPicker for BBCode, which gives you a pre-formatted block of text to copy/paste into your posts (as I have) with your build.

That Logisys supposedly can handle only 192 watts on the 12V rail, and even that might be overstating the actual amount it can handle. I doubt it can actually provide 480 watts to the components if push comes to shove, given that it's reviewed brethren couldn't.

The Pentium is not a gaming CPU. Quad core should be the minimum for new gaming builds these days.

The GTX 650 is not a very strong GPU, relatively speaking and the guy is on a budget, as he stated already. Not to mention in India, computers and their parts are more expensive than they would be in the U.S.
