Is this a good monitor?

HZ is your refresh rate. More is better. I wouldn't buy that monitor. 25ms response and i've never heard of the brand.

I was told LCDs have crappy refresh rates, hence not good for games. Unless they've fixed that problem lately and I wasn't aware...

This is what scares me:
Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement or Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY!
That's why I prefer local retailers for LCD's. Easier return or swap if there are dead pixels.

Also, 60HZ refresh rate is standard with LCD's. More is better is true for CRT's only.

Yup refresh rate dosen't matter very much on LCDs. The response time is what matters. That 25ms response time would look scary bad when running any fast paced game or movie.

Mag InnoVision makes decent LCDs with fair image quality, and that 25ms response time ain't too hot either. If I were you I'd go with another brand like Samsung or ViewSonic.

If you're on a budget and you need an LCD NOW, then the mag is OK. If you can save up go with Samsung or Dell. Better image clarity, response time, and brightness.

just buy a crt...and use the remaining funds to get an awesome video card to push your graphics to the limit ;-)

If you play games or watch DVDs with your computer, currently 16ms response times are the "standard" for what is acceptable. Faster would of course be better, but from what I've seen/heard 16ms is pretty good.

It is Hz not HZ!

A refresh rate on a monitor is NOT IMPORTANT. The screen does not refresh itself by scanning line by line like on a CRT with it's electron gun. The thing that counts on an LCD is the response time.

hz only applies to crt. fading phosphore dots flicker less the faster you refresh them. lcds are either all on or off. 1hz would be one change a second and totally stable. cept ur screen would take 1 second to actually change refresh is also irrelevant for lcd since the pixels are too slow to go faster then the slowest refresh anyways. look up crt and then lcd on howthingswork.com and read before u buy.

What's up with the responses on this thread?

DarkAmeba: 25ms isn't bad unless you're a hardcore gamer. MAG has also been around for a very long time (although they've been making pretty crappy monitors for a very long time).

9KingDiamond9: LCD's never had crappy refresh rates, they have crappy response time, which certainly isn't that much of a problem anymore. 16ms is ideal, but 25ms is enough to prevent ghosting most of the time. 25ms equates to 40 FPS, which quite honestly is very good even if you think you need 100 FPS in games. The problem is that a 25ms response screen doesn't necessarily switch every pixel at 25ms, which is what makes crappy LCD's look crappy.

mobiusman: 8 dead pixels is fairly standard for a replacement policy. A local retailer isn't going to let you just come in and swap out an LCD when one pixel dies, either.

DarkAmeba: There's no way a movie would look "scary bad" on a 25ms response screen. Movies are 24 FPS, which would only require a 41ms response time.

...and to the original poster...

Confusednewbie1552: What gives? You already own it and you're asking if it's any good? You should be the one telling us! I suppose you're wondering why you have to keep bumping your thread after that revelation.

0roo0roo: He already bought the screen. I understand that actually reading the thread might put a dent in your 500 posts per day...

Ummm, I work at a local retailer and we do offer 1 pixel warranties on certain brands. Also, if you buy any LCD from us with even one dead pixel (within 2 weeks) we'll replace it with a defect free one. (Most defective pixels that happen are present before the box is opened). Newegg will not do this. We then sell the LCD with defective pixels at cost or just above cost on our clearance shelf. I got my 17" LG Flatron L1710B with one red non-conforming pixel for $100 below cost.
BTW, I have never seen an LCD with more than 2 non-conforming pixels.
