is this a virus?

My virus software which is PC-Cillin-2003 keeps telling me that this is a worm svchost.exe???

[BTW, I'm running WinXP-Home edition]

its located in the Windows/System32 folder, but as far as I can tell it seems to be part of the original windows code as it displays a 8-29-2002 date like almost all of the rest of the files in there.

Could someone check for me please and post here, I would greatly appreciate it

How big is your file?

Also, check your taskbar processes and see how many instances of it are actually running and what it's doing.

Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that are run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs). The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load. There can be multiple instances of Svchost.exe running at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging.

If it's telling you that it's a virus, you might want to have this ignored. Otherwise, to cover yourself, just do an online virus check using Housecall. And if housecall comes clear, you can also download AVG for Free and have it check as well.

If they both come clean, I would have PC-Cillin ignore this file. If you can. I have never used PC-Cillin.
