The Invicta has a stationary bezel with four screws and a pair of raised beveled stripes which offer protection to the durable mineral crystal. Does the Seiko boast as much?

It'd be pretty ridiculous for me to buy a $500 (or even $100) watch, considering I'll end up destroying it in a couple months. I go for the $30 Wal-Mart watches. My current watch was a $30 Wal-Mart watch, and the band has been replaced 3 times, the pins twice, it has no glass anymore, and the digital center is dead due to immersion, but it still keeps mostly accurate time. It loses 5 minutes or so every couple of days.

I think I found your problem. Buy more destruction proof watch for more money. Walmart is cheap junk that falls apart on its own.

I do buy cheap $20-$30 wristwatches, but not the no-name brand Walmart ones. Rather, I buy Casio. They make good cheap watches. Armitron is good too. Not Timex though.

Expensive shoes can make a difference depending on how well they protect your feet.
I spent all day standing up at Hynix so dropping 150 bucks on SAS shoes was worth it for me. Those are pretty much the most comfortable walking/standing shoes you can buy on planet earth.
Hate sloshing through frozen slush water in the wintertime, so waterproof and insulated was worth a pretty penny to me. Also some expensive shoes last a lot longer than certain cheap shoes.

My walmart Timex Ironman was ~$30 and has been going for years (5ish?). I replaced the battery once and the bezel is scratched up pretty well but it still works perfectly.

Invicta made a really nice daytona clone a while back... probably the only watch I would buy from them.

Looking at a cell phone at least once an hour is sufficient to give me a close enough estimate to what time it is... unless you're just into watches, you're coordinating airplane landings or you never send or receive texts or calls I guess I just don't see the need...

I suppose I should mention that wearing jewelry or anything of the sort automatically irritates me, so there would have to be a pretty huge advantage for me to want to wear a watch.

No, not really. I'm just hard on watches. My mom once bought me, a few years back, a nice $350 watch, and I killed it in a couple months.

I don't know how I feel about "homage" watches like that.

I'm simply just not married to my cellphone like a lot of people are. I don't need to look at the time often, but at the same time, since I don't use my phone for anything other than talking, I don't use it that often.

yea, especially with everything being touchscreen these days, gotta turn on the screen to see the time. A watch actually becomes much more convenient. I was in line at Six Flags last month and noticed people tilting their heads to look at the time on my watch, rather than digging out their cell phones.

And while Invicta has some super inflated MSRPs, $50 for the watch in the OP isn't that bad.

I think metal bands are so 90's and tacky now. Leather is coming back.

I also have a $60 fossil watch that are more 'every day'.

Traditionally metal bands are actually considered more conservative/dressy and leather bands are considered casual. I have a book on dressing for business and it actually says not to wear leather banded watches into the office.

I think this rule is starting to break down though, as I am seeing people at all levels wearing leather banded watches at my company. And thank goodness, because I agree that metal bands look like shit.
