Recently I posted a thread asking how I could upgrade my computer so it could decently support games. Some of you guys told me it wasn't worth upgrading because the system was too old,others told me to buy a new processor. I decided to check the price for a decent new computer and my guy sent me this machine :
Processador --> I5 or I7 (+440$ if I go for I7)
Graphics card --> NVidea Gforce - 1GB
Mother board --> Asus
RAM memory --> 8GB DDR3
HD --> 1 TB

It would cost me 1985,00 $ if I buy with the I5 processor. 2425,00 $ with the I7. Keep in mind I live in Brazil so if the prices seem a little too expensive that s why. Is it worth going for the I7? It'll raise the price quite a bit. Do you guys think this is a decent computer? I currently don't have the money to buy it , but if I sell the PC that I have now for about 600 $ and ask some money for christmas I could definitely buy the I5. Basically I'm asking : is it worth it?
Sorry for any typos or english mistakes ;P I'm Brazillian!

nVidia Geforce what? They have been branding all of their cards as "Geforce" since about 2000. You could be getting a 13 year old video card without more specific information.

Motherboard = Asus what? A model number would be nice.

What i5 or i7? The i7 920 was new in 2009, so it would definitely be a bad idea.

For a $440 difference though I'd never opt for an i7 over an i5. Here in the states the difference is less than $150 for a new i7 and it's usually not worth that.

Yea, depends on which Nvidia Gefore 1GB card it is. Many lower tier cards have 1GB of RAM as a marketing feature, the GPU on the card is completely incapable of performance that would ever use 1GB of RAM, as well as that 1GB being slower, older, cheaper DDR3.

You'll need to provide more specifics about each part # as well as some sort of comparison point for us to determine if this is actually a good price. It seems like more than twice what we would pay in the US. His your guy building this from scratch or is this an OEM box?

The fact that your guy isn't giving you the complete specs means he isn't trustworthy in my opinion. Honestly with those "specs" he could be selling you a 4 year old computer...

With a 10 year old graphics card.

I understand it is expensive to buy PC components there but have you looked at what the import tax would be on buying the parts from a US distributor and having them shipped to Brazil?

You could put together a machine that would last you 10 years (looking at your current setup) for way under $1000. Is it really going to cost you another $1000 to have them imported?

A "little too expensive" is the understatement of the year, OMG!!!

Can you be more specific about the chips? Each one has its own benchmarks, and they vary greatly.

I don't suppose there is some way for you to order a system from an American vendor, is there? Or, better yet, someone you might know in America who could act as yr purchasing agent?

Would something customs related preclude that?

Apparently, your customs fees are off the hook. Very sad.

He lives in BRAZIL. And re the link I posed above, I learned the customs fees are BEYOND PROHIBITIVE should anyone buy anything needing importing.

Diwiw, does that price include Windows?

Also, is the amount you posted in Reais?

If so Google says that is $861 USD, which isn't too terrible if it comes with a decent video card.

If it a lousy card an no OS, you should be able to do better, especially if you are traveling to the states, or somewhere with better tech prices.

reminds me of that king of the hill episode where Hank has "his guys" that he goes to when he purchases things... the car dealer who charged him full MSRP, etc.

NVidea Gforce - 1GB
enjoy your G210

honestly NO, build your own PC, you can buy an i5 haswell for around $300, and MB for around $100, GTX 760 for around $400 doing the conversions from a popular Brazilian website... and so on...

You're the one with a XFX ONE + Edition 1GB video card? Seriously you should first try upgrading that as recommended. And then upgrade your cpu to an E8600, E8500, or E8400, or even a E6850. You should be able to find one of those 4 model cpus for around $50 USD in a major city. Even if after these upgrades it still isnt fast enough, at least it will be something you can sell because I know for a fact that an E8400 and a radeon 4800/5700 series gpu came game somewhat decently.

There have been 4 generations of i3/i5/i7 core2 duo/quads. So you want a 4th generation motherboard with the 1150 socket/CPU. If not 4th Generation, go somewhere else. You should be able to build an i5 system without a video card for about $700 with the operating system and no Monitor. Everything else depends on the price of the Monitor, Video Card, Speakers, Extra Large Hard Drives, SSD (Solid State Drive) and maybe a little more for a higher end motherboard or a higher end computer case/Power Supply. It all depends on what kind of $$$ you are willing to spend.

For $2,400 you can purchase an awful lot. Maybe even a system with dual monitors.

An SSD could be a cause of a higher end system if you got like a 500g SSD. Everything is a trade-off.
