IS this drive bad?

I received a bunch of parts from Newegg Friday to build my friend a PC and the HD I chose was an OEM Seagate 200 gig. Mainly becasue it came with a 5 year warranty according to Newegg's site. I plug it in on it's own primary channel and fire up the machine. System posts fine but then I hear this high pitched tone from the hard drive. Along with the tone there's a scratching sound with it. A few minutes later the beeps form one steady high pitch tone.

I put this drive in a couple other PC's and still the same sound. I've disconnected the IDE cable and only powered it up and still the tone. I've tried MS, SL, CS and limiting drive capacity jumbers and still the tone.


What gives?

I've RMA'd this drive, but could someone tell me definitively that this drive is DOA?

99.9% sure that its a bad drive as the main indicators is the scratching and pitching tones. ive had accidents at parties before and have ruined drives and thats usually how well tell if the drive is bad lol. basically we had a lan party and i got a little drunk and the dudes pc was behind the back of a couch that was blocking the only entrance to the bathroom and when i went to jump the couch to head that way the couch fell on the pc and knocked the HD really hard. needless to say i dont remember much after that but lol it was a good learning experiance.
