Been that way for a while, catch is in store only and one per customer per day. They want the foot traffic to sell you marked up stuff.

Actually I am lucky enough to live near enough to a Microcenter to go there now and then. For the most part it is definitely not "marked up stuff". I find about 80 - 90% of what they sell to be price competitive with New Egg and Amazon and on CPU's - particularly if you are getting a cpu+motherboard combo. I bought my I72600 K there only a few months after it was released and paid $75 less than any online e-tailer I could find including new egg and that one was not even part of a bundle.

Its a good place and about the only thing of its kind anywhere near me.

It's been that price for quite some time. I bought my 3770k there.

I've also had them price match a video card with newegg (needed manager's permission).

Guess I know where I'm stopping on the way home from work. Bye Pentium G2020, hello i7 3770k

Now if only I had the foresight to buy a Z77 motherboard instead of H77...D:

*in the age of free shipping, $17 sales tax does somewhat cut into the savings

Bought my 2700K for same price last year.
Microcenter is mah happy place.

There are a few things that I won't buy there since WAY too many people go opening up boxes and then putting them back on the shelves (cpu coolers, motherboards on the shelf) but if I need an SSD or CPU MC is the way to go.

This is my experience too. My 3770k and motherboard combo ended up being much less than Online. The RAM I purchased was price equivalent to Online retailers as well.

If online goods have sales tax, MC would be an even better deal. I live near one but have never been. I'm planning to get my 4770k there.

I love my Microcenter here. They run those insane processor deals all the time, and they are almost always running a $40 or $50 off compatible motherboard with it too. I was able to get my 2500k + motherboard for almost exactly $100 less than NewEgg. They had a $5 Coolermaster Hyper 212+ deal going a while back too. I almost bought 2 or 3 just to have around as spares at that price!

this is exactly why I can't figure out why there seems to be such a push towards lower i5's noting that the i7 is a waste of money. really? the price diff between an i7 and i5 is nothing. cool i saved $20 and lost 12% of perf! awesome!

Because hardly any forum members live near an MC. If we all did, then yes the i7 is much easier to swing.

They get you on the memory. Great CPU and motherboard prices. Horrible prices on junk memory.

I wonder if their stores vary wildly or something. I bought a couple DDR3-1866 8GB packs for $39/each a few months ago from my MC, Corsair brand. Dallas store. They stock store-brand/generic, corsair, Kingston, Crucial, and a few others. Selection didn't seem any worse than Fry's or TigerDirect stores.
