CPU :Intel 3.1 GHz LGA 1155 Core i5 3450 Processor
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 Motherboard

Are these combo good enough for 200$ budget?

PS: My GPU is 5670 GDDR5

Thanks in advance.

I would go for a Z97 + Pentium 3258. OC to 4.5GHz and next year upgrade to Skylake.

$200.- is an ok price for that combo. The CPU is ivy bridge so previous generation. The motherboard didn't get very good reviews on the egg.

For comparison, an i5-4400 (current generation Haswell) is $175 after promo code on newegg. A decent entry level mobo will cost $50.-. Total: $225.-

So for around $25.- extra you can get newer and better. Only you can decide if it's worth it. If i were in your shoes I'd spend the extra $25.-

I will be doing normal Net surfing, MILD gaming with games like CS:GO and FIFA.

I mistook that model for 4th Gen. Will go with i5-4440 maybe. Thank you.

PS - Currently i Have AMD 4200+ Athlon x2 which heats a lot and throttles on reaching 60 Celsius.

So abstaining from AMD

I would honestly recommend considering a Kaveri APU, even though it is from AMD. The integrated GPU is actually considerably faster than your 5670, and going from a separate GPU and CPU down to a combined APU will drop the amount of energy your PC uses.

AMD CPUs generate a lot of heat. I live in India and its pretty hot for like 8-9months a year.

When loaded, yes, but they idle just as well as Intel CPUs. I'm in the camp that favors the i5 though. You'll be very happy with it for a good long time, I expect.

"upgrading" from the 5670 (GDDR5) to a Kaveri IGP is not a good idea IMO... it should be faster, but not much on average, also Kaveri is going to perform differently depending on the RAM you buy...

the 3450 + H61 is a fine choice if it's cheap enough and you don't have an USB 3.0 HD or Sata III SSD... it should be good enough for a while and when you can upgrade the VGA without worrying much about the CPU.

or he could go with kaveri and enjoy it's relatively powerful iGP until whenever he wants to upgrade to a more beefy gpu. He can also take advantage of usb 3 and sata 3.

Core i5 + HD5670 will generate more heat than Kaveri alone, just to let you know

Kaveri A10-7800 is TDP configurable to 65W or 45W TDP and it also has 512 Radeon cores. Any way the dicision is yours.

I see 2 problems with this, price, the 7850K is to expensive as is DDR3 2133, and the lower you go (like DDR3 1333/1600, 7700/7600) the closer you get to the 5670 in performance, the other problem is, the CPU performance is not comparable to ivy bridge i5 for gaming, so he could be in need of a CPU and GPU upgrade soon, with the i5 he could use the 5670 for now, it would be slow for newer games anyway (as the kaveri IGP) but the CPU should be fine, and the gain would be great on any CPU bound game compared to the A64 (basically anything, the k8 X2 was a bottleneck for me back in 2007/2008 with slower cards), and later he could buy a nice VGA, even something like a 260x is way way faster than Kaveri or the 5670.... but it's up to him, if he is not planning a GPU upgrade soon, perhaps the i5 is "overkill" but still nice to have.

as I said, questionable GPU performance gains for now (and maybe higher cost with the A10 and faster memory), and CPU performance problems later with a faster GPU.

I will definitely upgrade GPU in coming months, but for now? I want to change my over heating shit CPU

if you are going to upgrade the VGA soon forget the APUs,

you can solve the overheating by cleaning/reinstalling the cooler probably, the A64 X2 should run cool enough with the stock HSF, I never had a problem.

that is a hell of a way to spin it,it is lower performing for sure but that isn't a "problem." As for the memory ddr3-2133-2400 can be had for ~$80USD a $10-20 premium over ddr3-1600 no big deal here. Also if the op isnt a big gamer then the apu to dual graphics is a decent path, a r7-250 [ http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphi...0-Dual-Graphics-Testing-Pacing-Fixed/Bioshock ] barring dx9 frame pacing issues.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+

^ released year 2005 (about 10years old cpu), uses max 66watts.

i5-3450

^ released year 2012 (about 2years old cpu), uses max 77watts.

The i5-3450 should get just as "hot" as the Athlon 64 X2 4200+, if its maxed out on a work load.

Make sure your pc kabinet is clear of dust, esp around the heatsink area for the CPU.

I clean it like every 2 weeks. I live in India, and its pretty hot here, maybe that's the reason?

I apply new THERMAL paste every 4 months. and also clean the heat sink thoroughly
