Is this healthy?

Salad
- 3 oz mixed greens/spinach
- 1 chopped avocado
- 4-6 oz pan seared chicken breast chopped
-2 oz blue berry
-1 oz brie cheese chopped
-1 oz baby carrots

This has been my primary meal each day, typically breakfast was been a Boost shake as I walk out the door.

I'm bummed because I've been doing 2-4 mile runs each day and eating what I thought was quite healthy, but I stepped on the scale for the first time in a couple weeks and I'm at 219 lbs, which I think is the highest I've ever been. I'm 6'3", so I'm a bigger guy, but still. I was thinking I'd be moving towards my goal not away from it. *sigh*

The food is definitely nutritious. I have to wonder at the wisdom of eating the same thing every day, though. Some people can pull this off -- most cannot.

If you've only been doing this a couple of weeks, give it more time. No matter what the craptastic grocery store magazines tell you, it's not going to just "melt away" as soon as you start a program.

Also, if that's all you're eating, you're basically starving yourself. Seems like under 1000 calories a day. That is not healthy.

ETA: If the running is new, that's why you aren't losing weight. You are building muscle, and your body is adjusting. Give it time.

screw the boost shake, and don't run so much; or really at all if you can help it. start lifting. also, stop paying attention to weight, not only is it mostly an arbitrary number, that fluctuates constantly overnight, but it's only going to serve to discourage you.

also, you're 6'3, you're going to need to eat a lot more than most people(I would know). try to get a lot of healthy fat and protein.

How religious are you when it comes to counting your calories? What volume of water do you consume a day?

Start Here, then here

Cardio is great for the heart, but I would definitely re-evaluate running that often every day, unless I was training for a marathon.

I have no idea about the food, but don't worry about the weight gain despite running. Like CharlesKozierok said, you're building muscle. I actually weigh significantly more (~10-15lbs) when I'm in good running shape, especially for the faster events. I'm a small guy though with very little body fat so it might not be as dramatic for you.

Pretty much an excellent salad.

You're not losing weight because you eat too much. Period, no ifs ands or buts.

Track your calories. You may be surprised how much food you eat--get an account at fitday and start recording.

I disagree to ignore weight, but this depends on how much bodyfat you have now and how much you want to lose. If you want to lose a decent amount, looking at the scale is not only ok but good--if it's not going down it's a better indication than any that you are eating too much. Any muscular gains should be completely overshadowed in their increase in your weight by the decrease of fat, so if you're not going lighter on the scale you really just aren't losing fat.

If losing fat is your goal there is no reason to spin your wheels, no reason not to see progress on a weekly basis. Weight does sure fluctuate from day to day, but it should be trending down predictably. Again, plug in weight to fitday and on the "overview" page you can see a prior week's (or month, for example) calorie intake, macro breakdown, and weight. It lets you see what's really going on.

I personally would prefer to just see how I looked in the mirror over time, but if you're going to weigh yourself, do it bi-weekly at the most

Some things you need to tell us. How long have you been eating this. Is this the only thing you are eating and if so home many times a day are you eating this? What are you drinking with this meal? How much body fat do you have? How old are you? Maybe post a pic so we can see what we are dealing with here.

I've eating this for about 2 weeks, once per day at dinner. I'm 26, probably ~24% body fat. I only drink water and juice, I don't drink any soda, coffee, and less than two alcoholic beverages per month. Out in the boonies this weekend, so I can try get some photos up when I'm back in civilization.

Juice is fructose bro... while nutritious if fat loss is what your explicit goal is.. probably not the brightest idea unless you time it perfectly.

Agreed. You really shouldn't be drinking any calories if your goal is weight loss. Research repeatedly shows that drinks like juice, milk, etc do not induce as much of a satiety response as normal food. That means you get a fair amount of calories that don't do anything to make you feel full.

Well I'm not drinking gallons of juice a day, we're talking 8 oz maybe twice a day at most.

Twice a day, 7 days a week... it adds up. Think of juice just like any other sugared beverage because that's what it is. If you are looking to drop fat, you should eliminate it from your diet period. Eating one orange is one thing, drinking the juice from the 5 oranges it took to make that 1 cup of juice is another.

One ounce of brie is perfectly fine. If you're eating 4-5oz, it adds up to a lot of calories. The above poster doesn't know what he's talking about. Cheese is fine, especially in smaller amounts. Everything in moderation

If you are talking Apple, or Orange juice you are talking about an additional 40G of sugar a day and a bunch of extra calories.

Yep. Juice is not healthy. It's almost like drinking soda. It's fine if you drink it during or within an hour or two after a cardio workout. Otherwise, it's not the best source of calories. Eat your fruit or drink it in a smoothie that you make. That way, it still has all the necessary fiber to slow digestion.
