is this legal, getting stuck in a outdoor self-storage facility due to it being after hours.

I normally suspend the kayaks and bikes from the ceiling, but since we use them often in the summer, I leave them on the floor as it is dumb to keep putting them up just to take them down a week later.
I do hang many things from the walls such as the spreader, weed eater, electrical cords. It's only a 3 car garage and space is limited.

Geez you even have a 3 car and can't fit that stuff? Ladders are easy to hang horizontally on the walls. I also have drill press / saws on the walls as well, only thing I wouldn't be sure of is your welding stuff - but still, I hope you can at least fit 2 cars in there?

Around here on Long Island where space is at a premium, even 2 car garages are rare. Ours is converted from a single car garage into a formal dining room open to the kitchen (and it's a 2700sf house).

We have to put the mower in the backyard shed and bikes in the basement (going through the house). If I had a garage, you better believe we'd put that stuff in there for convenience (we did at my old house). A single car barely fit and when you wanted something out, you'd have to move the car out anyway. The way we see it, a garage for a car is really only good for the night before a snowstorm or during a heavy rainstorm.

Dude, you gotta explain to be how 2700sq ft house isn't enough to store all your shit without using your garage and somehow justify rationally that you're not a hoarder. Da Fuq? Unless you have 5+ kids living with you I can't think of a single answer other than "You have too much shit"

Like I said, mower and bikes in the garage. What does that have to do with anything else in the house? That stuff belongs outside the actual house.

The 2700sf is for comfortable living. Thanks.

Like I said, I have all those things in my garage too, I still can fit 2 vehicles in my 2 car garage.

Calm yourself sparky. Didn't I already say it's tough even with a 1 car garage? Yes, I did. Of course a 2 car garage is wider, and not just simply twice the width.

This just in - people do different stuff. More at 11.

hahaha

My house is around 3800 sq. ft. including a 680 sq. ft. garage, most of which is not cluttered at all. I tend to be very minimalistic given a choice. I wish my house was smaller, but I wanted property close to the city and this was the only good house, so I bought it. Most of my stuff is in my barn, which is 2500 sq. ft. I have roughly 250 sq. ft. of junk and the rest is being used legitimately. My sheds have stuff in them, but none of it is junk. I understand how a family with no outbuildings could clutter 2700 sq. ft. without a lot of trouble.

OP, what did you say when you were told there would be a charge to let you out? More importantly, what are you going to do about it? I wouldn't completely lose it, but I would make a little bit of noise over this because it's ridiculous.

Exactly. My house is listed at 3791 sq. ft. and has a 3 car garage. We have a full storage room in the basement with seasonal decorations, canning stuff, camping stuff, empty boxes for gifts, boxes we keep for things we bought (we throw them away after the warranty period ends or every couple years, whichever is first, etc. No out buildings but wish we had a small one on the back porch for our lawn mower and string trimmer-- one that I could lock up. I think something like this would work well: shed.
There's always room to organize better or clean up more, but as it is, I'm doing without a horizontal band saw for metal cutting, sold my plasma cutter, and don't have my mini bikes at my house either (still at the parents). I keep the boat and jetskis at storage near the lake also.

It's probably legal because he did let you out and it's probably not extortion because he didn't demand payment before he did so.

I had some stuff in storage, I quickly realized that the value of everything in the locker was less than a few months rent. Got rid of most of it and ended my rent

had to go to our storage locker last night, got there about 8:50pm. found the important thing my wife needed for a job offer and tried to leave.

Ok, I'll ask... What important thing being kept in storage was needed for a job offer?

And... (why am I not surprised there's a Self Storage Talk forum?):

http://www.selfstoragetalk.com/foru...ent/5644-after-hours-gate-access-grace-period

Makes almost no sense to not allow people to leave after hours. From the sounds of the discussion in that forum, lawsuits revolving around this are common.
