I told her no and walked off. Most likely.

You'll come home from work some day and see the wife moved it all in while you were away

Garages aren't used for parking, they are a place a man puts his tools to use.

Pft real men have a heated pole barn for all that.

I hear ya on the space though. I have a 3 car garage but its shallow. I have a 24" workbench along the wall and can barely squeeze my camry in front of it

Ok, I'll ask... What important thing being kept in storage was needed for a job offer?

And... (why am I not surprised there's a Self Storage Talk forum?):

http://www.selfstoragetalk.com/foru...ent/5644-after-hours-gate-access-grace-period

Makes almost no sense to not allow people to leave after hours. From the sounds of the discussion in that forum, lawsuits revolving around this are common.

Wow, people got trapped and had to spend the night inside his storage facility and he is concerned about a zoning violation? What a douchebag.

Sounds like a plot point for a Seinfeld episode. Kramer would of course decide he prefered living in the storage unit to his appartment.

You gotta explain, did the owner operator know?

This was back in the late seventies and the concept was sorta new. There wasn't any security, you were able to drive up to your storage bin which had a narrow garage door. I would park my van right outside open the door and plug in my tiny tv to the plug inside. People would rent them to do work and you could rent larger ones and bands would rent them to practice in at night. So as you can guess there were some fun parties. But of course all good things came to an end and they put up a gate and posted daylight only hours.

Why wouldn't a place like this be self serve anyway? It's silly that you can only go at certain times.

I've used a couple storage bins since then and they had either a security guard and/or you had a key card & code to get past the entrance. And then you had your key for you particular bin. And they both had hours. The hours are probably for security and the blood sucking lawyers.

Hmmm true, guess it's liability or other BS like that. So yeah, blood sucking lawyers, basically. It's why we can't have nice things.

Getting stuck is almost assuredly not a crime. Trespassing is a crime. And its amazing how easily you can be charged with it.

Having hours is understandable but so is having a simple keypad on the inside of the fence to allow it to be opened if someone is stuck there after hours instead of bitching about possible zoning violations due to people being stuck there overnight without access to any sort of facilities, food or water. Hell even a one-way turnstile type device that lets people leave their cars but walk out would be far superior.

Yes, Shakespear said that we should "first kill all the lawyers" and I think we could actually get away with it. See, if we kill every last one of them then we wouldn't have adequate representation at our trial.

Exactly. That's how you know it's a money trap when you have legit access but they still won't let you leave.

Slightly OT, but a friend of mine is a dispatcher and it is absolutely hilarious how often they get a call from someone who followed someone else in to one of these properties and they can't get out. I guess they figure that was the only way to get their stuff since they were no longer, you know, able to pay for their storage. I always wonder who they think is going to let the police officer into the property, lol.

Woah is that device actually a thing? That looks like it could go so badly wrong if it malfunctioned lol. Neat concept though.

It is blatantly illegal to lock people in somewhere against their will no matter what

Law trumps policy every time

Except it wasn't against their will. They willing stayed passed gate hours.
