Is this Overkill?

Hi guys..

Just wanted to ask if this was going to be pure overkill for O'c ing

I plan to get a corsair h70....

Then i'll add two of these

Noise is not an issue for me
At 252 cfm a piece... Is that going to give extreme performance, or is it too much? XD
I have an i7 930 that i want to bring up to 4.3ghz

Just don't connect it to the mobo fan headers, whatever you do. It says that each fan takes 48W all by itself!!!

Edit: Yes, I do think that's overkill, and quite silly.

Those fans are way overkill for that silly little cooler. The H70 is a great cooler if you're tight on space, but it's not the best for actual cooling performance or low noise.

I'm willing to bet that the H70 with those monstrous 5500 RPM fans is going to perform no better than a Noctua NH-D14 or Thermalright Silver Arrow with 1850 RPM Gentle Typhoons.

The H70 with 2x1980RPM fans can't match the Silver Arrow with 2x1270 RPM fans. And the NH-D14 and Silver Arrow are AIR coolers!

So, if you want a cooling setup that will actually perform well for the ~$150-160 you'll spend on the H70 and those 2 vacuum-cleaner fans, then do yourself a favor and get an XSPC Rasa 750 RS240 setup for the same money. Not only will you save a little money, but it'll be much quieter, perform much better and be more versatile as far as upgrades go (in case you want to add a second loop for a GPU).

Your ears will thank you. You might say you don't care about noise, but 5500 RPM fans are no joke...they literally sound like a vacuum cleaner running right next to your desk.

Heck, if you want spend $150-160, get the even better performing RX240 kit with the thicker radiator...

If you want to go overkill why not just build a real liquid cooling system and get far better temps than putting those god awfully loud fans on that tiny rad.

you won't be happy with the h70. The afformentioned xspc kit would be WORLDS better. I suggest you research the overclocked heat load of your processor before buying anything

If you're really after huge airflow, you could duct a pair of 12" desk fans through your case in a push-pull configuration. It'd be quieter, and would push a lot more air. Just as an example, this model is 930CFM.

Interesting -- the RASA and other kits -- for the price. About double a high-end heatpipe cooler.

I notice that ThermalRight's IFX-14 design has been resurrected in the Silver Arrow and the Noctua-NH-D14.

There is a limit beyond which forcing more and more CFM's through either radiator fins or air-cooler heatpipe fins won't yield much more in heat removal, but you'll go deaf trying.

First, the wattage is insane. You might as well get an auxiliary power supply just for the fan and other periphera.

What was it -- 252 CFM? You could get past 150CFM with a 120x38mm Delta Tri-Blade, and the wattage is closer to 10 or 11 watts running at maybe .85 or .90 Amps. And it would still be quieter.

So, I have to say . . . "Bad idea.. . . "

In my newest machine, the beefiest fan that's in it is a Panaflo NMB-MAT 120x38mm (single case exhaust). I think it runs at 0.6A @ 12V, while a comparable San-Ace 120x38 is 0.4A@12V.

The rest are either 240mm Coolermaster fans that came with the HAF-922, or the Noctua fans on my NH-D14. And I think I can get rid of at least one Noctua fan without any increase in temperatures, a slight decrease in noise and power draw.

It's all about thermal resistance, air flow, power consumption and decibels. Minimize the first, maximize the second, and attempt to hold down the last two. But with a fan like that, the air flow doesn't buy much except for increasing the wattage and noise.

So much talk here about the Delta's. They are hard to control. Only a rare few fan controllers can handle them. The new Aquaero 5 would be a must in this case.

As for the rasa kit, it's a very good performer, however the drawback is the 750 pump. Some of the pumps work fine while others have been a PITA or DOA. People have grabbed a few of the pumps I have for replacements or backups. The weakest DDC pump at 10W@12VDC performs better than the rasa 750 pump. go figure that.

Anyways, not to hijack this thread in the wrong direction, the Delta fans are literally screamers. I have four of them. When the AC went out in my beater of a Camaro, I placed one on the dash and wired it to the power outlet. It sure kept a great breeze on me in heavy slow moving traffic.

The Delta EHE 92mm with SHE 80mm were the only incase fans that I ever used fan gaurds on.

The Delta EHE 92mm was also the only fan that ever cut my finger.
The amount of the blood made it look worse then it realy was.
The Dual blade deltas are bad fans.

On a serious note i ditched my antec 900 that case was pretty annoying at times.

From now cool and quiet for me go back 2 years ago and heck i would have replaced all my 900 fans with deltas :thumbsup:

ahh the tornado, only fan i ever owned that would hover under its own power

the only good thing about them was running them at 1/2 voltage. they were actually quiet and still pushed a ton of air

my old 60mm Delta (screamer) was louder
