Question Is this PSU okay?

I don't think I really need a 750W PSU. The problem is that I can get a real good Corsair RM750 Gold that comes with a 10 year warranty for the same price as a PSU with 550 or 650 watt. I am looking for an upper tier PSU also, and the RM750 is one of the upper tiers in the charts I've looked at.
I will not have a GPU at this time, but maybe later down the road it may happen, but it won't be anything bigger than a 1070, 2070, or 3070. I have 8 Seagate Exos HDD with more to be added, plus, 5 140mm fans. I am running an MSI Z690 mobod with an intel i5-12600 CPU.
at this point I have 16GB of ram.
How much more power draw will the 750 be?

First, the Corsair is a good, dependable PSU. The 750 watt PSU will only draw as much power as the PC requires. If your rig needs 250 watts, that's all the PSU will pull from the wall, if it needs 600 watts, then it will pull 600 watts. Just because it's a 750 watt power supply, that doesn't mean it will use 750 watts...unless your PC NEEDS 750 watts. (and without a GPU, I'd be surprised if you need more than 250-300 watts with everything maxed at the same time.

I figured as much with what I had read, but I had also read a couple of misleading articles too. I knew I would find a logical answer here. I thought that a 750 watt PSU would be a good one to go with for the future, if I decided to go with any type of GPU later on.

Here is what you find on the unRAID forum called the power supply thread. This is how it starts. I thought that maybe I had missed something.

"A good PSU for unRaid has the following:

1. Single 12 volt rail. A subsequent figures refer to the 12 volt rail.

2. The minimum capacity that can power your build. Any more will just waste power."

Since I had done a calculator for what I was putting in my build, I knew the 750 watt was way overkill right now, but I thought that maybe the person here knew something that I didn't.

I typically use 850's from EVGA because they handle whatever I throw at them and also have a 10 year warranty. The one time I took a chance on Corsair to save $10-$20 it arrived DOA and took a while to get a refund. But, the EVGA was enough to handle 8700K + 2 GPU's and everything else inside the box. I rebuilt from the ground up with a 12700K and used another EVGA and it's been rock solid for about a year now.

For the most part though PSU's have the same innards across brands as there's only a handful of OEM's that make them.

This has 6 year warranty, relatively cheap and has military TUFness. Used it for my friend's build. The innards look quite different from regular PSUs.

I always use upper tier, that have at least a 7 year warranty. I have gone with Antec, Corsair, EVGA, Thermaltake, Superflower, and several others throughout the years. I have never had a PSU come DOA, or ever go bad in all of the years I have built my stuff.
I have read things about EVGA as of late that were not the greatest, but I'm sure they are all in the same boat as most things these days. I have read more good things about Corsair than a lot of brands, and since this was the color scheme I am going with, I went with the Corsair RM750 white. It was $99, normally $129. I know the x line in corsair has the "Japanese" in it, but that is overrated in my opinion. It has a 10 year warranty, just like the X line, and came in white. It is also listed as a Top Tier PSU, and as it says on the site, its newest model, so, I'm sure it is as ever bit as good as most anything else.

The only part you would see if the back where the power cable connects. I suppose if you had a case that didn't have a shroud over it to deflect the heat from going into the MOBO area might be an aesthetic issue. The whole I want a window on my PC case options has gotten out of control the past few years.

I can understand a laptop / tablet appearance being of concern if you're taking it out and about all of the time but, an ATX should be sitting in a corner somewhere due to the size of it. Maybe it's a generational thing. I've been tinkering with PC's since the 90's so, yeah, I've seen quite a few different PC options from the humble beige plastic options up to the 3-sided glass cases you can get today. Those old beige cases also changed color over time due to the light degrading them.

$100 is about where I draw the line for a PSU though. 850's tend to hug that line closely and are a reason I don't go for the 100W+ options. There's a reason though there are 1000+ PSU options as everyone wants something unique when it's the least observed part of the PC.

I don't have a window on this build. I am kind of a weird guy when I comes to my builds. Even if I don't see it, I know how it looks. I like my backside to be neat, and the part that can be seen most of the time when cleaning etc. to be extra neat.

So, even without a window, I still like to keep my theme going if possible. And who knows, I may be lucky to get a window for my FD Define R4 one day. Also, in the R4, my PSU will be seen when I show people the inside of my build.

I could not find a PSU listed in the upper Tier like the Corsair I bought that was any cheaper than this one. I may have missed it, but I am pretty sure everything is way up there right now. This was just a lucky find on my part to find this for $99.
And by the way, I'm 63, but like the window idea, but I like my R4 better than other builds I've looked at, so I'll keep it, even without a window.

Yeah, when I built the ADL system I went for the same PSU model I had on the prior build and it went up 50% in price but, found a similar EVGA unit for around $100. I was a bit skeptical but that faded with time. I settled on the FD meshify 2 case which is full mesh on the front and didn't want anything bright coming out of it. I took out the led cover over the io ports and that left things nice and dark. The only LED is a white bar on the front that indicates power. Black cases though stand the test of time. My prior build was in a Nose 804 and that was even more subdued with a faint blue power indicator. FD makes great cases though.

I have a Corsair 400W PSU in my unRAID server. I have an i5-2300 with 8GB of RAM and 4 drives (1 parity and 3 data). I use it only as a file server, but it rarely pulls 75W at most. I run it headless and no GPU, just the bare minimum. The PSU is ~12 years old and the fan just started to make some noise this week so I'll likely be looking for a replacement. I've always bought Corsair, but I did have a bad one recently on my son's build. It dies after like 2 days of use. Got a replacement and it's been fine.

I opted for the Enermax MarbleBron 550W to replace my noisy Corsair. $46, semi-modular, flat cables, says it has Japanese caps. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet.
