Is this RAID 0 slow?

I have a Dell XPS 420. Just recently upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium. I thought it was running slow, so I thought I would do a RAID 0 to speed things up. I have 2 Hitachi 500GB HD model number HDP725050GLA360. I tested with HD tune. Single drive in Vista 64bit, and RAID 0 under Win 7 64bit

Vista 64 Single HD

Min 50.6
Max 91
Ave 78.7
Access time 19.7

Win 7 64 RAID 0

Min 93.4
Max 136.9
Ave 118.9
Access time 20.8

Under Vista and Win 7 both give me a performance rating of 5.9 =(
The motherboard is an X38 chipset. One drive is on SATA port 0 the other is on port 4.
Clean install on the Win 7

Is this what I should have expected? Or is this a slow RAID 0. Any thoughts about how to speed it up?
Thanks for your time!

That sounds about right.

Don't worry about Windows 7's performance rating. I have four disks in a RAID 10 array, and it still gives me a 5.9.

Windows performance ratings are not for people setting up raids to care about.

Operating systems should never utter the phrase NOMNOM, in my house that job is already taken

OP I have the same drive, just one though, and FWIW here is my crystaldiskmark score and HDTune under WinXP 32 Pro.

lol thats the noise my cats make when they eat their kitty treats. And Remember, raid 0 depends on the drive, controller, and striping size used. My Raid0 with my 2 samsung spinpoint f1 750's averages about 100-110 MB/s with HD tune, but they are faster drives to begin with, plus I am using Intel raid ICH10R under bios, and I did research before hand as to what stripe size is best with those drives.

I also have 2 160 GB seagate drives in Raid0 on nvidia raid controller, but those are slower than your setup.

the way performance rating works (for most tests, some differ), the first number is based on FEATURES, the second is based on PERFORMANCE as TESTED. And the testing is rather crappy. And the feature selection is also stupid.

So, a 5.X means you have a non SSD drive with a minimum amount of SPACE and RPM.
a X.9 means you exceed a certain max threshhold of speed beyond which windows doesn't care.

Also... windows vista can ONLY get to 5.9, it is the max score it can give. Windows 7 has a max score of 7.9

My intel X25-M 80GB G2 gets a 7.7 on win7
