Hi. I was wondering what you guys think about this ram

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-950&depa=0

I know its OCZ and I know people have problems with the company, but I'm more concerned with how it'll perform.

After being burned twice by geil ram, i'm not considering them. Will these sticks perform well in my Abit Nf7-S v2.0 in dual channel? I'm going to run them at 200mhz but I figure I could drop the latency a little bit, like 2 3 3 11 or something, since I heard that nForce2's like a tRAS of 11.

Please let me know what you think, or if you've had experience with these chips in an nforce2 motherboard. Lets not get into OCZ's business tactics. I just want ram that will let me run fairly tight timings, and actually pass memtest86 for once.

From what I've seen, OCZ is a very good performer. You should be able to up the timmings without much trouble.

From what I keep reading, these sticks are said to be "optimized" (whatever that means) for the Intel i865/i875 chipsets. Will that mean bad stuff for me on the nforce2 front?

how about a different brand.. you never mention anything about having to buy OCZ for any reason...

what about Kingston Hyper-X?

its still cheaper than kingston. I have hyperX in my computer now and love it, but i want more ram and the hyperx is gonna run me 300 or more

I wanna know if this OCZ stuff will work for me, It's more in the price range i'm willing to spend

i have 1GB of the pc3200 like you have linked to. i can run 220MHz @ 2-3-3 at stock voltages on a i865 board (can't test any higher as my board is pretty limited for o/c and i can't adjust voltages). seems to work good for me.

well i linked to pc3500 in fact, and i was asking is if it will work ok in an nforce2 chipset motherboard, since it says everywhere that its optimized for those intel chipsets.

i honestly don't understand how it would be optimized for a certain chipset, somebody help me out here. i put it in my nforce2 based machine and it works fine. i can't push it as this machine only has a xp2000/266 in it. when running in 266 it has 2-2-2-5 timings

Don't waste the cash, for all that money you will see little to no performance gain. Just get a pair of crucial sticks and spend the $$ on a better video card, you will see a much more significant performance gain.

Someone needs to make a stickied RAM thread here, seriously.

So:
Don't waste the cash? There is no dual channel ram packs form crucial (by the way i know its more of a gimmick than a necessary thing) and if i buy 2 of thier 512mb sticks it's gonna cost more than the OCZ. All that money? the reason i'm thinkin of getting this ram is BECAUSE it's cheap. I had Geil which was even cheaper, but it was pure crap and errored in memtest like crazy.

Bob:
On the OCZ site it says "optimized for intel blah blah blah" I figure this was just a marketing gimmick to get intel folks to buy the ram, but it just makes me wonder, and i wanted to see if people had used this ram in an nforce2 mobo, you used pc3200 which is not the same as these sticks.

Sigh, i think im just gonna order them and hope that i don't get screwed.

If you are going to get ram, this is excellent stuff. At preasant, I run two sticks of the OCZ 3500EL 256mb and it works great on my A64 3000+. In fact, I can get it to 230 mhz with stock voltage 2.5 on a Gigabyte K8ns pro.

Great stuff.

after talking to many tech support people from different ram companies, the dual pack is there just so the sticks have very close tolerances. i had a stick of mushkin go bad and since it was in a dual pack i asked if i needed to send both back. they told me "no", as long as the stick they are sending me has the same timings it will work great, which it does.

i had pc3200 with faster timings, i can easily get to 220MHz with 2-3-3 timings. which is 440MHz when you double it, faster than pc3500. usually to get the faster speed in mhz the ram companies slow the timings down. that is why at 266MHz it runs at 2-2-2-5 on the nforce 2 board. either way you slice it, it is good ram and i would definately buy it again
