Thanks - that's what paid for college - my own s/w consulting business. But I want a steady salary at this point - THAT is what I'm dealing with...

Have you talked with any staffing companies? They can be really helpful and motivated to help find you a job. Gotaa be kinda persistant with them though in the beginning.

It's an American name, why?

My guess is he's asking because studies have shown that if you have an "ethnic" sounding name you have to send out about 10 times as many resumes to get a response.

I tried one - the guy sent me on an interview to one location, turned out the interview and job were an hour away from where he sent me

funny how they have no problem hiring programmers other countries though.

Yeah I think Asians are an exception to that rule... If your name is Juan Valdez, good luck finding a white collar job. It's a subconscious reaction I think.

If you feel comfortable, perhaps post your resume here? (Without personal Info.) And I'm sure some of us could help you. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to take a look at it. (Although I don't know how much insight I could really give.)

Sometimes you fall victim to circumstances. Yes, you may have a good GPA and everything but don't have a feeling of entitlement. Nobody owes you a job. Apply everywhere and take what you can get, entry level or not. I don't think a stable income should be your main concern right now... it's getting your foot in the door. Good luck.

That reads like IT experience rather than software development experience.

If you're looking for a software development job you should definitely be looking for an entry-level job (which sadly are pretty scarce).

Actually a lot of employers won't put much stock in having your own company before college, since that's pretty common for CS folk and doesn't show that you can work for someone else and follow their rules.

If I were create a resume that just said "BS Degree.... blah blah" how hard would it be for me to get an entry level job in *something*. say, unrelated to tech?

And most of the apps I've sent out are for entry level and above IT positions... Although I'd take a s/w job, it's not what I'm aiming for.

Yeah, post your resume. There's probably something fundamentally wrong with the resume for employers not to respond.

If you're willing to relocate, look at the Northern VA/DC area. From what I hear there are a lot of good jobs down there.

Try some others.

The staffing companies I've talked with have been great. They get paid by employers when they fill positions so they really want you to get a job. Also, the more money you make when they place you, the more money the staffing company gets.

As far as resumes go, unless it's something glaring, you can give your resume to 10 different people and get 10 completely different answers on how to change it. Still, it's always a good idea to get feedback.

Interestingly enough - that's where I'd like to move .

Do you know anyone down there whose address you can use on your resume? A lot of companies prefer to deal with local people.
