Well, thanks for saying a whole lot of nothing.

indeed

I sent a message to the seller asking if he could explain the situation, his response:

Dear arik5405,

Hi, What do you mean? the package I has been shipped to you from my sister. She is a member of newegg. If you don't believe in me. Just return to me, I'll make a fund refund to you.

Thanks for your time,

- seller.scott

what the hell is 'a member of newegg'?

Sounds like you guys are just jealous of the Ebay seller's savvy use of "inventory resources", AKA "Bonnie and Clyde school of banking"

And the seller gets away with money that isn't his. OP might lose but letting scamming assholes get away with it (and encouraging them to continue to do so in the process) is its own special kind of losing in the big picture. Tough decision though when the OP stands to lose his cash.

The flaw in your logic is that the OP *thinks* something might be wrong without actual *proof*.

what?

150 price @ NewEgg. I don't care how low wholesale is, 130 to dropship the item from NewEgg after fees is ridiculous.

I think he means that makes it fishy. Newegg is selling it for $150, then why would he be able to get it for $30 less than that from them.

he has to get it $30 less, pay for paypal fees, pay for ebay fees, pay shipping (free shipping), AND pay himself a profit.

So we're at $130 (proceeds from auction) less 12 in eBay fees less 4 in PP fees less a minimum of $6 in shipping leaving him with $108 in proceeds, with NE selling the same product for $150.

Yea I bought a saw from eBay and it came straight from sears and had another persons name.
I contacted sears but they would not tell me anything. There was no phone number from the "buyer". So I saw there was a rebate. I sent it in and contacted sears again and told them all the info was with the rebate. They still would tell me if it was stolen but said they would look into it. Not only did not look into it they sent me the rebate.

OP if you want to do the right thing, unlike Patranus our res P&N Republican, contact newegg and tell them the seller, eBay, and see if its hot. If they won't help like sears in my case, then keep it and wait to see what happens. If they say it has been reported they used a stolen CC then contact Paypal ASAP to get your money back.

Holy terrible grammar Batman!

This has scam written all over it. I don't doubt he'll give you even a full refund, probably because you're the only person that's contacted him about it. He's still raking in all the money from the rest. This way, he figures you won't do anything about it, you get your money back and wash your hands of the situation, he gets to keep scamming.

So either he's just outright scamming, or his sister is in on it as well. I'd definitely be contacting basically everyone (Newegg, the person that had their card used, ebay, Paypal if you used them, and depending on the responses you get, possibly the FBI's cybercrime division or whatever).

Ok, that's even worse, but exactly the point. There's no way the guy would be able to dropship it from Newegg for that much less than Newegg is selling it for themselves.

There is the chance it's legitimate if there are restrictions on the # of items you can buy at one time during a sale [ie: 20 item limit per customer, per address].

Sister buys 7 of the CPU's, brother buys 7 CPU's, parents buy 7 CPU's, etc - each order is shipped to the credit card billing address. One person handles ebay auctions and the items are shipped out from one of the addresses.

What I find interesting is they didn't even open the box to verify the contents and remove the packing slip...

It's not coming from the ebay seller, it's coming from Newegg directly. The packing slip shows a different bill to name, and the ship to name is the ebay buyer name. No "Newegg sale price" involved here.

I've heard of this scam before...scammer can make a lot of money doing this, and get away with it pretty easily.

that msnbc article hits it on the head.

odd that it is newegg though, and not amazon.

Hint: Its only a scam if you get scammed.
The OP didn't get scammed. They got a product in exchange for money.

It's probably a scam, Newegg does not offer bulk or corporate accounts AFAIK.

Someone suggested contacting the owner of the card, do so. It won't hurt. Just keep all documentation and proof. Worse comes to worse you return the product and your credit card reimbursed.

actually they do offer corp accounts

someone got scammed though, you jackass

No where is their *proof* that any scam took place nor is the OP the victim.
If a scam took place the victim will sort it out.
No reason to get in someone else's business.

Holy shit, zanejohnson is still alive. The once small potatoes resident pill popping techie schmuck. Good to see you're still kicking man.

*devil's advocate*
So if this a credit card scam, who ultimately loses out? It ultimately falls onto the credit card company to eat the cost. Maybe some gets shifted to the retailer, but most of it does not. Credit card giants lose more money in 3 days with shifting treasury rates than they lose in 1 year of fraud. Their losses due to fraud have very little to no connection to the rates you pay. If you pay any rates to credit card companies, you're a jackass anyway.

*still devils advocate*
Why would you spend any of your limited time and resources contacting the "authorities"? Let them come to you. Chances are that they never will. The msnbc article is insightful, until it tries scare tactics to make you believe the black suits and sun glasses are going to show up at your door and take your cpu!

What happens if you DO report it? You give back the product and now YOU'RE out the money instead of a credit card company, a large retailer or even some person 1,000 miles away that you don't know and probably never will know? Why would I ever choose that option? Do I get a boy scout merit badge if I do?

*devils advocate off, mostly*
This is how I, and the majority of others handle it.... Hey, my new CPU, sweet! *plug into board*. It works great, just what I wanted. *throw out box and packing slip* *play game or whatever*.

The louder you are the more attention you garner.

This is 100% not legitmate, whether a true scam, etc. There is the other seller doing the same thing and they have sold to each other, what they're doing just isn't possible legitimately...
