Xperia Z2 was pretty underwhelming, too, but I guess people(myself included) expect more from the #1 Android OEM by sales.

Frankly, the best looking device so far @ MWC is Huawei's MediaPad X1. Very slim and sleek. They've really went the furthest way of reducing dead space.

The S5 is if anything a step back designwise from S4.

Its better in all ways and has cool new software features.

Does anyone know what this part of the preview means?

"although now that Samsung is following Google guidelines regarding read/write permissions, the utility of the microSD slot could be much less than previously expected."

Well looks like the rumors of the 1440p display and Snapdragon 805 SoC ended up wrong.

This article seems to explain the matter.

Smartphone releases are getting more and more boring.

I think they peaked around the GS3. The phone is still butter smooth, 720p display makes for super sharp text, and it is the perfect size.

It seems all they are doing now is adding gimmicks like eye-scrolling (GS4) and fingerprint readers (GS5) and bumping up the size .2 inches. Pretty much the size of a Note.

Spec junkies obviously will go crazy for a new SOC and bump in MHz and 2K displays which are okay, but more or so things that look good on paper, not real big improvements.

I would have preferred they work on an all metal chassis like the One.

Epic fail, it's worse than the GS4 design wise imo. The LG G2 and Note 3 see to spill be the phones to get

805 production times were never going to match this release... hence the "801".

I wonder if the SOC schedule didn't get Samsung to lowball the remaining S5 specs so they could in fact launch some more-premium refresh this year.

I'm truly disappointed. A larger screen that's still 1080p? And only 200mah boost to the battery for that?

The specs bumps are nice but seriously I want a my 3 day battery.

Look at this guy making excuses for this turd of a phone. The Xperia Z2 has this turd beat in every way imaginable Samsung is resting on their copying machine.

EDIT: Didn't Samsung have a big Broadway event last year for the GS4 in May or June? And in London the year before that for the GS3? So, what was stopping them for launching the GS4 in May or June like in the previous years if they were waiting for an 805 SoC???

I wonder who came up with the idea to integrate the finger print scanner into the home button.

Such innovation, the designer should be awarded for this masterful design.

Pretty disappointing; not that i was in the market for a phone since I love my Note 3, but I was hoping to see something cool. Plus I have friends who were waiting to see what this would be like before making their upgrade decisions, but I think I'll tell them just to get the S4 since it's essentially free now.

Big let down. HTC and the other manufacturers had better take advantage of this golden opportunity.

Any details on the screen itself? Obviously it's still 1080p but I've heard a couple reviewers state ambiguously that it's a step forward over the S4. The peak brightness referenced in the presentation also points to some improvements (I think I saw up to 500 nits?). Mostly curious as it tends to give some insight into the following Note screen improvements.

If my exchange admin allows the fingerprint scanner to be used in replacement for a strong password, that'll make me pretty happy as well.

Will be interesting to see camera comparisons between the different flagship phones.

I thought the Galaxy S4 was the Galaxy S3S. Does that make the Galaxy S5 the Galaxy S3SS (super speed!)?

No, it's the Samsung Galaxy S3 S2.

And looking at the back more - I'm thinking breadboard. Poke some discrete ICs and little jumper wires in the back to make it look more raw and cyber.

So these are the main specs compared to S4+ from what I can see:

S4+:
1080x1920 (5")
Snapdragon 800
2GB RAM
136.6 mm
69.8 mm
7.9 mm
130 g

S5:
1080x1920 (5.1")
Snapdragon 801
2GB RAM
142 mm
72.5 mm
8.1 mm
145 g

Underwhelming to say the least. I wanted 3GB RAM. I wanted better resolution. The only thing I got was a slightly bigger display, but I don't even want that now when the tradeoff is a bigger phone. Seriously, Samsung? You didn't even manage to keep it the same physical size as the S4 with only 0.1" bigger screen?
