Is this what really constitutes a 'date' to the current Teens...

were talking 15-18 or so...

My family and I were eating at PF Changs, prior to going to watch a relative play basketball...

we were eating, and a younger couple came in, 17 at most...

outside of eating, they did the following...

texted on their phone
checked facebook on their phone
conversed about status' on their phone...

all you saw was them either on their phone, or eating, or talking about what so and so posted on facebook...

HOLY SHIT.

To answer your question seriously though. Why should it mater what they were doing. Maybe that's just the way they enjoy themselves. Maybe they have been together a long time and this was just a dinner, not a "date". Maybe they weren't a couple?

$48 for 4 of us to eat... but honestly, outside of 'snobs' the food itself isn't terrible, and at 14 a person average, it wasn't bad...

Had this same talk before on ATOT. I can't really judge because I've never eaten there. I just can't help it because the Chinese in me sort of vomits at the idea of any type of Western Chinese BISTRO. I just prefer authentic Chinese food if I'm going to have it. And the real stuff also costs a lot less than that, probably 8-12 per person.

Really though I'm just ribbing you.

There's been some discussion on a variety of sources about modern technologies, social networks, text messaging, email, etc, destroying the social skills of younger generations. Makes sense when you see elementary school children sitting outside during 'recess' all texting and Facebooking on mobile phones.

If I'm out with another person somewhere, it means that I'm with them by choice and because I want company and human interaction. Therefore, I'm not going to be texting/talking/tweeing/whatever when I'm with them, and I'd expect them to show me the same courtesy. If you're out doing something with someone, you can leave the phone in your pocket for a few hours, really.

That was my first thought actually.

Then I realized that they're spending time in person, because hopefully that is better than being in their own homes alone.

They'll learn given time, people eventually realize when they make mistakes

Two A-Holes in a Nativity Scene

Shaky camera capture of a TV broadcast with poor audio all to spare you people from having to watch a 30 second commercial before the video starts. That's just the way I show that I care.

OP, if you're going to have a rant on the state of our youth, you really should learn some basic grammar skills. It's not hard - I pretty much had it nailed at age 11.

This was my thought. When I used to be a server I would see older couples (45+) come in, sit at a table, pick up two newspapers and barely breath a word to one another until they left. This happened all the time.

I'm not sure what a date is these days, but the last time I took my niece & nephew out to a restaurant it was similar to what you described.

While waiting for food the 16 year old nephew spend that time texting and updates his Facebook account. Then he sneak into the bathroom to text/update Facebook when I asked him to stop doing what he was doing.

So yeah, kids these days can't live a moment with out being on their phone.

bet they are 50, probably been married for 25 years... not maybe dating for 3 months, still in school, on winter break, trying to plan how to find somewhere to drink that night and fuck...

So what's different about this generation again? Oh right, they have more efficient methods of finding said venue.

In no way does this beat the family I saw at Outback who literally brought a portable DVD player into the restaurant, set it on the table, and let their 5-6 year old watch movies the whole time while the rest of them were talking (except when he was eating for some reason).

If your kid's ADD is that bad, it's time to consider either WAAAYYY upping the Ritalin dose, or maybe seriously consider some kind of electroshock therapy and/or beating regimen.

Or employ what the parents of my generation did:

Child: WAAAAH!
Parent: STFU while adults are speaking, I'll only say this once.
Child: Or what?
Parent: test me...
Child: *silence*

If I ever have kids, they'll be able to live without their electronic entertainment. If they don't believe me, I'll prove it to them.

nice to see you were far more interested in the teens sitting next to you than your own family

They were politely texting how much they want to fuck because talking about it would be rude

He said the girl looked like she took the ride of her life. It's hard not to notice
