There was a dusting of snow on my car this morning, I should have called in sick!

I was going in yesterday morning and it was windy. My car could have blown off the road and my boss didn't even appreciate how I cheated death to be there. The nerve of some people, actually expecting their employees to show up for work.

The counter to this is that when I lived in upstate New York the high got up to 95 and people called in because it was too hot.

Upstate NY'ers must be pussies. Here in the Metro NYC area we go to work when it's nearing a 100 and humidity is high. You know how horrible it is in subway stations during high heat like that? You just stand there and sweat in this mugginess of stale tepid super hot air.

Big snowstorms? Time to put on your big boy boots and slog through the snow, ice and slush. And once the snow melts you need to somehow traverse massive lakes of water and slush that block all the pedestrian crossings. People create inventive routes.

Couldn't find too many great shots. Here are some smaller ones:

I wouldnt have driven in it... but around here pretty much all businesses shut down and schools close for that amount of "snow" - it's all ice underneath.

I just call a spade a spade. If a company is telling you that driving in unsafe conditions is more important to them than your safety, that's a shitty company.

There are many parts of the world where it regularly snows far more than in that photo, and it's not like work comes to a standstill in those places when it does.

yeah, but in those places it all depends on the infrastructure of the city to handle the snow. Some towns just don't have the plows and salt and people to deal with even a moderate storm. It's not like businesses from one city to another make up their weather work policy in a vacuum.

OP got triggered. He needs to go to his safe place.

Yeah I realize that. Those places have all the tools and equipment for that shit. When we had 3 feet of snow last year a plow didn't come down my street for about 5 days. If that happens up in Canada they probably are plowed out in a day.

Yeah, the Seattle area can't handle any snow. When I lived there, it snowed 3" and the city and surrounding area was shutdown for several days. They don't use sand or salt and I was surprised when I heard they only had like 50 pieces of snow removal equipment where in Boston area you have thousands.

plows are for the weak. if you can't drive in snow you don't belong where it snows.

What's funny is if we have so much as go below freezing (30-32 degrees), my city literally shuts down. No one goes to work. NO ONE.

A lot of it is because people like me don't trust our lives on the road with morons that don't understand what Icy roads are since we rarely have them.

That said, I don't know what OP works, but most white collar jobs can be worked from home. If they have a problem with working from home on a couple off-days in the year where you don't feel comfortable driving then fuck em.

Hahahahaha plows. Yeah, we have those here. Sometimes they actually get used.

Typically they'll do the main roads within a day, but the side streets can take a week or more.

The traffic kinda helps plow the roads though, the snow gets packed a bit and driven off to the sides, but road will be a little drifty. TBH I find it's kinda fun to drive in when it's like that. Just have to use common sense and be careful.

That's barely much snow at all. I'd not have tried to get out of work from that. Maybe be 30 minutes late to clear snow and drive slow, but c'mon. I would take your text/photo as a slacker attempt to get out of work as well.

Guess what my boss and HR said to me today in regards to getting to work despite the 9" of snow we got and hundreds of school closings?

Nothing because I went to work

I'd vote no. I'll ignore the snow volume because that is really dependant on where you live, that amount of snow looks trivial to me.
The problem is you are expected to be at work and on time 100% of the time. Even if your house was on fire that doesn't excuse you from being absent. Admittedly only an a-hole would give you a hard time over a fire but regardless you need to be at work.
He responded in an amateurish way but other than that I see no problem with it.

If you live in an area that snows, buy the appropriate vehicle. And have separate, winter tires mounted on rims for winter.
I lived in Tahoe up a very steep hill and drove a 66 Mustang. With a bunch of weight in the trunk. Sometimes had to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up. My next snow vehicle was much better. F250 4X4 PSD with great winter tires and weight in the bed. That thing would go through 3 foot snow banks and probably climb trees.

This is why I bought my WRX. I had a Chevy Cruze when I moved to Saint Louis and there were some hills the thing just didn't want to climb in the winter. Subaru don't care.
