My wife and I were leaving an open air shopping plaza - It isn't very big. 4 stories with maybe 30 shops total - as we are heading down from the 3rd floor I happen to see a cop on the 2nd checking doors to make sure they are locked. We go across the street and there is a handbag just sitting on a bench. There is no one around at all. We are in Daytona Beach, and we are in the hotel/timeshare corridor so there are always tourists.
Not wanting to be accused of stealing anything out of the handbag but still wanting to do the right thing, we go back across the street to tell the cop. He is now up on the 4th floor and is just checking the last door as we approach. I tell him about the handbag and he says something to the effect of "Ok, thanks" and starts to walk down the stairs. He stops on the 2nd floor to talk to some guy that I'm assuming is a property manager or something and we continue on our way. We cross the street and look back - Still no cop. We go into the parking garage and pay our parking fee and leave - Still no cop. We drive past the entry to the mall - Cop is no where in sight.
What the hell? If I left my wallet somewhere and someone told a cop about it I'd hope that they'd grab it right away before some dumb shit teenager (There were a few walking around) or a bum (there was one in the same area as the handbag, but I don't think he saw it) came and took the fucking thing.
I'm torn between whether or not this cop is just lazy or just an apathetic prick. I know that there is someone here that is a cop (used to have a black guy avatar) but I don't remember his name, I'm hoping he might shed some light as to why this tool didn't go get the damn handbag. In this age of "identity theft omgzorz", why isn't this taken a little more seriously?
I'd have gotten it myself and attempted to contact the owner, but my policy is CYA. I'm not going to have some bitch accuse me of stealing her money or something.
