Is Tirerack still the place to go for tires

Wife decided to look at her tires and all the horizontal bars are gone, though front to back are still there, so not racing slicks yet.

06 Scion Xa, just need basic ol tires. Looking at the Yoko Avid Trz for 61 at tirerack, after shipping and getting them mounted they will be pushing almost $100 a tire.

Any other website out there to checkout or a store that can match them? I have heard good things about the Yokohama's for the price, but don't see them in too many storefronts. One place nearyby shows up on the Yoko dealer search so I will check them tomorrow when they open.

I've used Tirerack for a long while and never had a problem.. They still have very competitive prices and what not.

However, I'll have to look for somewhere else on my next tire purchase. I really want to try the Falken 452s which Tirerack doesn't carry.

discounttiredirect.com. vulcantire.com.

I use discount tire direct normally since the shipping is free and very fast. The prices are much better too than tirerack.
Edit -- looks like the avid trz are better priced at tirerack but no free shipping.

still good, but lots of places are starting to charge extra to mount tires that they do not supply. Even places that price match will claim that if they price match, you will be subjected to the extra fee for mounting tires they do not supply.

My experience with discounttiredirect.com was that the price for the tires was higher but since the shipping was included the overall price was less than tirerack. They're both reputable and I've done business with both as well.

Used discount tire twice now. Bought 15 inch steelies and winter tires mounted and balanced followed by 15 inch steelies and all seasons. No problems and I highly recommend them if you are getting wheels and tires.

Tirerack is still a good place but Discount Tire will match their price + shipping and you can negotiate a little also. I have always been a Yoko fan but I put the Avid TRZ's on my wifes Saturn and even though they have a 80,000 mile treadwear warranty her's are ready to be replaced at 36,000 miles. Otherwise they have been a really tire.

With free mounting, balance, stems, etc it's really hard to beat Costco and the like on average tires mounting on average wheels.

Next time I get tires for my wife's saturn, I am using Costco. Even with a sale at TireRack after shipping and the mounting I could have saved about $75 at costco (Goodyear ComforTreds).

My 240SX runs 40's which I'd just be asked for wheel blemishes having a costco type do it. Not to mention just getting my car on the lift and the other battles I will have due to a fully adjustable suspension is just not worth it.

They had an excellent price on my Goodyear Asymmetrics the last time though.

452's are junk. I put a set on my 540i 14 months ago because they were cheap and they're already bald. Not to mention after about 1k miles they were loud and the sidewalls had lost all rigidity. Bad wet traction and virtually no light snow traction to speak of. 14k miles on them and they're bald on all corners. Compared to my previous tires, Pilot A/S, which went 40k before needing to be replaced. Going back to pilots next month before I have to register again.

I'm not sure why you are running a summer tire all year and expecting it to hold up under cold weather like an all season, but whatever. Cold weather destroys summer tires, they are not made to handle in the cold.

I primarily use Tirerack and Discounttiredirect. Unless I can find a deal locally, which is rare.

Discount and Big-O were marketing them as "all weather" :mad; didn't do my research till after they started being noisy. In any case, I put them on in late spring and by October they were already rumbling and the sidewalls had already softened.
