I usually just go on the tribe board and download random mixes by random djs. Occasionally I'll stoop as low as toronto raves but typically tribe has quality stuff.

I don't do trance anymore. Mostly breaks, house, hiphop and hardcore.

edit: sometimes SOMETIMES I'll listen to new NRG (is it even called that anymore?)

You should check out their mixes. Very few mixes by the good DJs over there are trance, these days it's mostly chillout or electro.

Word. My favorite two producers of the moment. Above & Beyond being the top dog.

I saw PVD live at an event over President's Day weekend. He spun some ill mixes I've never heard before, but then again they don't play trance/house/techno on any of the major stations in Los Angeles so it's been awhile since I've heard any fresh material, period.

Give them a shot. Very fond of their vocal-trance channel.

Gotta wonder if the heyday of '99-'02 will ever repeat itself.

Sometimes I'm amazed I made it out alive and graduated from college during that time period. Most of the "new" stuff I've heard in the past few years is simply remixes of remixes of songs that became popular in the clubs then. Seems like the nightclub techno scene is still alive on a small scale in larger cities. Raves seem to have faded out in most places partly due to law enforcement.

ROFL at lack of clues in some of these replies.

To the OP - no, entire genres of music haven't died.

Dead? No. Faded and fading? Yes, as it has been for the past several years. But there's still a lot of activity in the scene.

When you take a category of music such as techno/trance and then break it up into 50 billion sub/alternate categories/genres, you effectively kill off the original which never really went away in the first place.

I think the problem is that people want to be unique, especially artists. How dare my own creation isn't defined by its own genre - let's create a new one just for me! Superhyperuberbeats NRG Megahouse. Give me a break. It's all electronica.
