Cabinet picks and judicial appointments also come through the Repubs. Also, I don't think Bannon is a Repub. There seems to be a lot of animosity between Bannon and the Repubs.

I think you're confusing several different concepts and rolling them up into "Republican".

Fern
Only since the book came out, before that he and Trump still talked and he was back at Breitbart. You saying the head of Breitbart wasn’t a republican?

See I get that it’s the cool thing to say, but the reality is far different. What if I said Democrats treat you like a lower life form unless you are black or hispanic? When you throw things like that out there how could one take the rest of your post seriously?

Because the claim you just put out is subjective at best, whereas there's zero doubt that Republicans craft policies to discriminate against people who don't fit their very narrow definition of a person deserving their support. Are you really going to claim that promoting diversity is as horrendous as, say, trying to remove anti-discrimination policies for LGBT people or defunding Planned Parenthood based on a lie?

Gawd. The only reason the GOP is at odds with Bannon is that he's distastefully blatant. They've made the same White fear culture war pitch more softly for decades. They have the same problem with Trump if not quite so much.

They def appreciate the votes, however. They wouldn't be where they are today without Trump & Bannon. Not to mention some help from the Russians, of course.

Yes. Or to put it another way.

The Republican establishment still uses their inside voices and dog whistles.

Trump just says it out loud. Which is why the base loves him. He doesn't care. A real Strongman.

Otherwise, there is essentially no difference in major policy.

I don't think that's a reasonable benchmark. Congress is controlled by the repubs, so every bill he signs is run through a repub 'filter'. Furthermore, this situation is exacerbated by the stance Schumer and Pelosi have adopted.

Fern

It seems odd to blame the bills Trump chooses to sign on Nancy Pelosi.

I think that if Trump signs a bill it’s a sign of his approval. Why would you think differently? He could veto all those hard right bills but he chooses not to. If he’s not a Republican he certainly gives a convincing impression.

Fern is your typical Republican, he's too much of a pussy to accept that trump not only represents Republicans but that Republicans are trump. He's your typical, party before country, Republican who will try and distance themselves from trump publicly while voting for him and his policies privately.

Trump is merely a scapegoat when it's convenient.

So there's nothing ideological about the tax cuts, the way the Interior Dept is being run or the scraping of the bottom of the barrel for toady judicial picks?

Not really. Believe it or not, a great many people have no political ideology. It's just that you aren't used to seeing them in office. Ideology isn't Trump's master, but a tool for gain.

That's true of the GOP leadership in general. It's the ideology of greed.

That's a common trait between the GOP and Trump. There is a distinct difference between being one of the gang and having mutual interests. I am not partisan for a number of reasons however their interests and my internal compass align on a number of issues, especially of late. Likewise, Trump and the traditional GOP have things in common like regulatory issues, but make no mistake, Trump will throw anyone under the bus just like he did Tillerson.

Heh. That's also true of the GOP in general. They eat their own. They are the lootocracy. Trump fits in perfectly, other than his big mouth. They're not ashamed to be with him or Russian propagandists- just slightly embarrassed.

I've been saying that since the first year of the apprentice. The only loyalty he feels is to his bank accounts and his pleasure. There is absolutely nothing more to the man.

Yes, he's a Republican. He has the membership card. The real question: Is he a conservative? The answer should be obvious.
