Well if you'd been around when XP was released, you'd know how bad creative drivers are. It took like 6 months after XP release before they even released drivers for their Live cards.

Here's another tip, if you have the Dell 1350 WLAN card, nix the Broadcom driver Vista installs, it was disconnecting like crazy whenever I downloaded lots of/large files...drove me nuts. Installed the latest XP driver from Dell and everything is working great.

I'm still having problems with the Dell 1350 card. First off, in beta, Vista picked it up and installed it just fine, even though i did have disconnection issues i think (i was wired 99% of the time, so hard for me to remember). But in the RTM, Vista doesn't even install the Broadcom drivers. I had to use the XP drivers, which gets the card working, but i think i'm suffering from the disconnection issues as well now.
Damn, that sucks, mine has been totally solid...not sure what to say. I wish I had found those drivers when I was running XP, I had regular disconnect problems then as well! I was ready to buy an Atheros or Intel card off of eBay to replace it.

Hmm maybe i'm not having a problem. For some reason, every time i open MSN, i get a msg asking me to connect and go online because the content is not available offline, but my MSN contacts are working fine and i can msg ppl just fine.

Well I was around and it wasn't too bad compared to previous operating systems. Compared to creating config.sys and autoexec batch files in dos to execute windows it wasn't too bad at all. I remember having to script my modem to dial up my isp and then run winsock. Hell I remember surfing the internet using text from a unix prompt. We've come a long way since them.

Not sure on nvidia chipset drivers, but there are certified video drivers for vista....

Thanks for the feedback...it's been an interesting read! Oh and Quinton...no worries, you made it fun.

What is it exactly you were looking for? For MS to finally create a system where manufacturers can put a rubber vagina on the side of the computer so you can bang it whenever you feel the urge?
It's got:

Better security than XP.
Better networking than XP.
Better GUI than XP.
Better memory capability than XP.
Better performance than XP.
Better search and indexing than XP.

Really, what is it about Vista that failed your expectations?

omg I laughed so hard at this haha

Vista is going to go through some growing pains over the next 6-12 months, as all new operating systems do. You may encounter buggy drivers and application compatibility issues until software developers and hardware manufacturers work out the kinks. Unless you want/need to stay on the cutting edge, I would wait for the dust to settle a bit before making the switch.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I tried it out for the sake of trying, courtesy a la work. I found that on my HP TC1100 Tablet support was rather scarce. I had to find forums and what not to get basic functionality, like buttons and screen brightness. I have found that battery life is also worse in Vista. I like the interface, it's pretty, but it's not for me; I love a simple interface. I disabled all visual effects save 2 on XP. I also found XP to be more responsive, while Vista has better handwriting recognition. Both have benefits and drawbacks. I'll wait until SP1 for vista comes out. Until then, at least on my tablet, I'm back to XP.
