Concillian and Cerb have you set straight there with those last 2 posts.

Trim just makes the recovery process a bit more efficient for the controllers logic and GC still rules the roost.

On the fly recovery will only improve even moreso over time. Next gens will kick ass in that dept to be sure.

I will probably wait until Windows 8 sees the light, as I won't have the money needed before, if I get any unforeseen expenses.
Seems like TRIM is just an extra gimmick, if I get that. I write a maximum of 10 gb in a day, and that would be in a weekend with nothing else to do.

TRIM is not a gimmick, it does what it was intended to do.
TRIM was developed as a software fix to a hardware problem.
In parallel to that, SSD controller logic was improved to provide a hardware fix for a hardware problem.

If you have the right hardware (current gen SSD) then you don't really need the software solution. It still provides some useful capability if you have a very, very write heavy usage profile, but this is a very, very small portion of users, and they generally know what they're getting into.
