Is XP Pro automatically 64 bit?

How can one tell if they are running a 64 bit version of XP?

Your not. Unless you running it on an Itanium or a beta copy on an Athlon 64 or an Opteron.

And then if you wanted to tell, right click the My Computer icon and choose properties. It will say it there.

The current version of XP Pro isn't 64bit compatible, if you get a 64bit chip (athlon 64) you'll be running it in 32bit. The newer 64bit version of XP won't even have most of the features that the current XP has.

Huh? I haven't heard anything about that before? Do you have a reference about this?

The 64-bit version for IA64 is missing a lot of features, the one for x86-64 should have them all because it runs 32-bit code just as fast as 64-bit.

The one for IA64 is missing certain things, because these things are not needed in the environment that an Itanium is running in. If I had an Athlon64, I would install the beta given to MSDN subscribers, but alas, I do not own an Athlon64 or Opteron. The one for AMD64 whould have all of the same features found in the standard version of Windows XP Pro, because the environment that it will be used in, will not have no need for them.
