Athlon 64 vs Pentium M 1.5Ghz notebook.

I think my home PC wins though the notebook is probably worth more.

Nope. Work uses 733Mhz P3 systems with 256MB of ram and a generic video, while my home pc is running an athlon 64 2800+ with 1.5GB ram and a 9800 pro.

My work computer is so lame that I brought one from home to the office to use - which is really sad since I am in IT. :disgust:

I built both from scratch so it could have gone either way. However, I opted for a slightly less powerful machine at work since I didn't need the same capabilities as I do at home. I just bought a 17" LCD for the office which is much better than the 17" POS CRT I have at home. How I wish I could take it with me.

If you're just talking about local workstations, then I don't believe I've ever had a work pc faster than my home pc.

It was when I first started working there 3 years ago. It's not even close now.

Except for the monitor. 21" Sony at work and a 17" Viewsonic at home.

i voted yes ... although only 1 of my 2 computers here at work is better.

i put yes because my main developing maching here is Dual 2Ghz, 1Ghz RAM, GeForce FX 5400. the only downside is its a MAC, but it's not that bad now that I'm used to it. I still would not trade a normal PC for a Mac, even w/these specs. at home i have an xp 2400+ w/1.5Ghz RAM and a Saphire Radeon 9500NP @ 9700. oh, and my windows machine here is only like 1Ghz w/512mb RAM.

at work they gave me:

Thinkpad T23, PIII 1.2ghz, 1gb ram

and a

IBM ThinkCenter P4 3.0ghz 2.5gb ram desktop

so I guess my laptop is better and my desktop is worse at home...

My work computer is a PII-350. I'd have to go back a few home setups to match this fatty.

It's fine for the work I do though (ATOT).

Different is the best way to put it.
My home machine does things my work machine cannot and my work machine does things my home machine cannot.

Yet both have their purpose so thats why I say different

In my opinion, no.

It is a Dell P4-3.0ghz w/ 512 RAM and onboard video.

I'll take my home system anyday...

My home is an Athlon XP 2700+ 2.17ghz w/ 1gb RAM + ATI 9700 Pro.

Home: P4 2.8ghz, 512mb RAM

Work: P2 233mhz, 128mb RAM.

The work rig is good enough for the email/MS Office stuff I use it for.

You don't need a kick ass computer at work. People's computer at home, especially gamers, are way too powerful.
